Inspirational Stories 071 Young Dharma followers should wake up early to offer incense and to perform their daily recitations of scriptures

Young Dharma followers should wake up early to offer incense and to perform their daily recitations of scriptures.

Deepest gratitude to the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, to the merciful Master Lu, to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Dharma Defenders!

I would like to share one of my dreams with everyone. In this dream, Master Lu was visiting Shanghai and stayed in a hotel. Every morning and night, we would offer incense and perform daily recitations under Master Lu’s instructions and after, Master Lu would give Dharma talks. I participated in the worship with other senior Dharma followers in the hotel. On the third morning, I headed to the hotel in a hurry and when I got there, it was already 6:40am. I saw a lot of Dharma followers queuing so I asked a fellow Dharma follower if I would be able to get in and join the worshipping assembly. A volunteer staff said to me that the assembly started at 4:40am. It was at that moment that I realised I had been late for two hours for the past three days. I was totally unaware that Master Lu started the morning assembly at such an early time. I was ashamed and regretted that I was two hours late.

By the time I got into the assembly, Master Lu’s Dharma talk was coming to an end. As I arrived late, I could only stand at the back of the assembly hall. Master Lu’s face was serious and he looked disappointed. I looked around the hall and saw that the number of elder Dharma followers significantly outnumbered the number of young Dharma followers and vice versa for the queue outside the assembly hall. Master Lu’s Dharma talk ended at 7:40am and he invited us to have a vegetarian breakfast, which consisted of fresh vegetables and soy products. I was very upset and did not want to eat because I was ashamed of myself. Many young Dharma followers were also standing on the side and reflecting on their slackness. I then woke up from my dream and it was exactly 5:40am. I knew it was the Guan Yin Bodhisattva reminding me to wake up early so I could perform my daily recitations.

I would like to deeply repent for my slackness. I used to always find excuses to sleep in, such as being too tired and busy. That was so undiligent of me! In fact, the Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu knew about this and thus enlightened me through my dream.

Additionally, the dream also suggested that the elder Dharma followers are more diligent in their Dharma practice than the younger Dharma followers because they get up very early to worship and to recite scriptures. Meanwhile, many younger Dharma followers stay up late and as a result, they often miss offering incense on the hour.

After receiving this kind reminder from the Guan Yin Bodhisattva, I find it necessary to share my dream with everyone and to encourage young Dharma followers to be diligent in their Dharma practice.

Deepest gratitude to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and to Master Lu! Deepest gratitude to all the senior Dharma followers!

010 Regarding having the toilet door closed at all times

Q010: I have a question to ask Master Lu. You mentioned that we must always keep the bathroom door closed. If we close the door there is no airflow, then when we open the toilet door the air is very stuffy. As a result, we are now using the toilet with the door open. Do we need to close the door when we use the toilet? Some bathrooms have a small window, should we keep the window open? Some bathrooms also have ventilation fans, should we keep them on? When there is no air circulation, the air is still stuffy even if we open the window. We often hang our washed clothes in the bathroom to dry, is it alright to do so? Would the negative energies become attached to our clothes? My questions are quite ignorant, but I ask Master Lu for guidance.
Thanks and take care!

A010:
• The bathroom door should be closed at all times (including when you take a shower or bath and when you use the toilet). You mentioned that the air is stuffy when the door is always kept closed. It means that the bathroom has been affected by negative energies, and these energies have been trapped in the bathroom. It is better to keep these negative energies inside the bathroom than releasing these energies to the rest of the house.
• You can place an air freshener in the bathroom, and one in the toilet. They are not expensive and will improve the quality of the energy field.
• You can open the window and leave the ventilation fan on in the bathroom (you should close the window at night time).
• If you hang your clothes in the bathroom, the negative energies will become attached to your clothes. It is best not to drink or boil water from the bathroom tap. The negative energies will affect the molecular structures in the water and make you unwell.
• You can place a landscape painting above the bathroom door on the outside. If the space between the door and the ceiling is too small, you can also place it on the wall on either side of the bathroom door.

78-year old with Alzheimer’s disease came back to life from a deadly situation

With the blessings of the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu, a 78-year old gentleman with Alzheimer’s disease came back to life from a deadly situation

Before I start, please allow me to express my gratitude to the Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva and to all Buddhas!

Good afternoon everyone, my name is Wang Da Zhang, I’m from Beijing, China. Last year at Master Lu’s Sydney Dharma Talk, I shared my husband’s story with all of you. He had Alzheimer’s disease and he was missing for about 4 hours. Neither the police nor us could find him, but with the blessing of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu, he returned home safely by himself – what a miracle!

November 27, 2015 was a day that none of us could ever forget. That morning, my husband wasn’t feeling well after he got up. All of a sudden, he forgot how to dress and also lost some basic life skills. With Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s blessing, I managed to take him to the Guan Yin Citta Center in Sydney. However, in the afternoon, his condition got worse: he couldn’t stand up from his chair, then he became feverish, , couldn’t open his eyes, couldn’t eat nor speak, it was like something had stopped up his throat. Luckily, Master Lu was in the office at that moment. Right away, Master Lu examined my husband’s situation with his spiritual power. Master Lu then told us that there was a cloud of black smoke pulling the Ox’s beard. The Ox is my husband’s totem as he was born in the year of the Ox.

With much compassion, Master Lu blessed my husband three times during the day. In the evening, my husband was able to lift up his arm like he was trying to grasp something. Since we were at Guan Yin Citta Center with Master Lu, we strongly believed that Bodhisattva would bless and protect my husband, so we weren’t too worried. Late in the night, Master Lu came to check up on my husband before he went home, and told us that if my husband had another fever, we needed to take him to the hospital right away. Ten minutes after Master Lu left the office, he phoned to check on my husband again. After hearing that my husband had another fever, Master Lu hurriedly returned to the office immediately. It was almost midnight then. Master Lu led us in incense offerings and prayer to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for my husband. Master Lu even offered to transfer some of his own merits to my husband in order to save his life, which moved us to tears .

Later that night, Master Lu told us that he saw Guan Di Bodhisattva come down from the altar, and told us that my husband still had some hope. Hearing the message, we were very touched. Later as my husband’s fever had not gone down we called the ambulance for him. Two female healthcare workers arrived with the ambulance; they were particularly nice and patient. To everyone’s surprise, my husband was able to get up and go to the bathroom by himself and then to walk downstairs to get into the ambulance. while smiling and joking with the healthcare workers. All of the changes happened within only one hour of us praying to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, before then, my husband was in a coma for about 7-8 hours! Can you believe it?

Today, our whole family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu! Otherwise, we couldn’t imagine what would have happened! Thanks to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, we met very nice people throughout this entire process, from the healthcare workers on the ambulance to the nurses and doctors in the hospital. Everything went smoothly and our insurance claim was a piece of cake, we had no issues whatsoever. Even the healthcare provider at the hospital kindly reminded us to have the doctor sign off on our insurance claim. There were just too many pieces of luck to mention one by one. Master Lu sent his staff to bring my husband dietary supplements to help him get better soon; other Guan Yin Citta friends came to visit us in the hospital.

The nurses checked on my husband constantly during his first night of stay in the hospital. Normally he was difficult to work with in the hospital, but this time it was an exception. The nurses in the hospital were very experienced and patient and although my husband was skinny, they had no issue finding the artery for his blood sample. His condition was very good while in hospital, he was very cooperative and reacted well, making jokes with us too. He was not at all like someone who just passed out not long ago. Hence we would like to thank all the staff at Australian Oriental Radio Station, they took very good care of us, bringing us food and warm water and taking my husband’s temperature every 5 minutes to make sure he was okay. When we were in the emergency room, Senior Yu and Senior Jia drove to the hospital and waited outside until the next morning, and then took my daughter home to pick up our healthcare card. I sincerely thank everyone for their support and caring, Buddhist friends are closer than family members!

My husband improved with every passing day. From the first day where he could barely eat, to the second day where he was able to finish his meal completely and was able to walk by himself. He also recovered from fever too: his fever was completely gone by the third night. The doctor only prescribed him some antibiotics, without any IV (intravenous infusion). My daughter felt sad for the other elderly patients who shared the same hospital room with my husband as well as grateful that we were lucky enough to learn about Guan Yin Citta and find Master Lu. After spending a few days in the hospital, my daughter said “Life is full of suffering, if it wasn’t for the Bodhisattva and Master Lu’s guidance, we would still be wandering through life without any purpose, only to leave this life in ignorance.”

Like Master Lu said, my husband would have been passed away. It was Master Lu’s compassion in bringing him back to lifethat allowed him to escape death. My daughter was a volunteer at Master Lu’s Dharma talk in Malaysia last December. After she transferred all the merits earned as a volunteer to her father, my husband’s legs got much better, he could go downstairs as usual, and his constipation also disappeared. Every time we recall the patients we saw in the Emergency Room, we feel deeply grateful; if it had not been for the blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu, we might be in great sorrow right now.

We all went to the Master Lu’s Dharma Talk in Hong Kong last June. We had such a great time. On the evening of my ceremony to become a disciple, while Master Lu was giving his speech, my husband wrote down ‘805’ on a piece of paper, and wrote the Chinese characters of ‘time’ next to it. My daughter was shocked when she saw the paper, because she had had a dream before we left for Hong Kong, in her dream, we owed 805 dollars to someone and she thought that might be the number of Little Houses needed for her father. It was exactly the same number that my husband wrote down! Unbelievable! We made our vow right away. This past August, when we almost finished 805 little houses as promised, my husband told us ‘50 people have gone away’. He also called our daughter and told her that ‘the event is almost over’. I also had a dream of seeing people leaving to apply for film school the same night. It was amazing! Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and to Master Lu!

Ever since we were introduced to Guan Yin Citta, we have experienced hope and see a bright future!

When we returned to Beijing last March, the Guan Yin Citta Center in Sydney had not yet moved to its new address. On this visit to the new Guan Yin Citta Center, we felt joy from the bottom of our hearts! We received a warm welcome from all the staff and volunteers at the Australian Oriental Radio Station and we felt very much at home!

We must strengthen our belief practice Buddhism diligently following the teachings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu throughout our lives, and commit ourselves to our Buddhist cultivation!

Once again, we would like to express our gratitude to the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva!

Gratitude to Sangharama Bodhisattva!

Gratitude to all Buddhas!

Gratitude to Master Lu!

We would also like to express our gratitude to all the staff and volunteers at Australian Oriental Radio Station, thanks to Senior Huang who introduced Guan Yin Citta to us, thanks for your help, encouragement and support!

Thank you everyone!
098 Regarding whether we can use the image of Guan Yin
Bodhisattva or Master Lu as a screensaver or avatar?

Q098: Master Lu, I really like the image of the Guan Yin Bodhisattva statue from Guan Yin Tang. Can I use the image as a screensaver on my computer or as my avatar for chatrooms?

A098:
• Using the images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas or Master Lu as a computer screensaver is very disrespectful and unacceptable, especially if the images are going to be flashing on the screen. We should always
be mindful and sincere when we pay respects and make offerings to statues or images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
• All images on the computer exist in a virtual format. As a result, images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas on the computer cannot be properly blessed and you would not be able to invite Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to
enter the images. This is also the case with images of Master Lu.
• In addition, this type of virtual images tends to flash on the computer screen and can therefore easily attract foreign spirits.
• If your computer is being used for browsing or storing inappropriate
contents, then using images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas or Master Lu as a screensaver or avatar would be very disrespectful.
• Images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas on your computer can be printed in colour, and then laminated or framed. You can follow Master Lu’s instructions on how to invite Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to enter the images on your altar. You can then mindfully and sincerely pay respects and make offerings to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Please refer to Q&A 093 “Regarding paying respects and making offerings to statues or images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas at home”.

Metaphysics Q&A 140 – Etiquette for paying respects

Q140:
Hi Master Lu, as Buddhists, we often visit temples and monasteries. What should we be aware of in terms of our appearance and behaviour?
A140:
As Buddhists, when we visit temples and monasteries, we should not dress causally. We should be clean, tidy and respectful. Your hair should not be covering the middle of your forehead (known as “Tien Ting”), otherwise your fortune is likely to be affected. Please avoid wearing a skirt or flip-flops, and avoid exposing your shoulders or knees.
Your speech and behaviour should be respectful. Avoid displaying inappropriate facial expressions and gestures. Inside the shrine with the statues and images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, refrain from inappropriate gestures, including intimate physical contact between couples. You should also keep your voice down.
Try your best to avoid having a strong body odour or passing wind while you are in the shrine. If you are not able to control it, then it is best to go outside or go to a corner.
A temple is considered to be a pure place for Buddhists, and it would be reasonable to consume vegetarian food. If you have consumed meat dishes, it would be best to brush your teeth and recite the Dharani to Purify Karma from Speech (Ching Kou Yeh Chen Yan) before you go to the temple.
We should be mindful and respectful towards all Dharma Doors, and all Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. It is best to perform more recitations and speak less. Ensure that you do not generate negative karmas from speech.

第二,言施。语言布施,对别人说非常鼓励的话,让别人感受到你对他的温暖;
第三,心施。用自己的心敞开心扉,诚恳待人,帮助别人,让别人感受到一种爱;
第四,眼施。你的眼神可以用善意的眼光,让人感觉到温暖,现在的人眼光冷冷的,看见别人就像看见恶人一样,伤害自己又伤害别人;
第五,身施。身体的布施就是以自己的行动去帮助别人,去让别人感受到这个世界还有很多的爱;
第六,座施。我们外出乘船、坐公共汽车,将自己的座位让给别人,也是一种布施;
第七,房施。将空出的房子提供给别人休息,帮助别人。
佛陀说,你如果能够做好这七件布施,好运一辈子就跟随着你。

DONATIONS AND COMPASSION TOWARD BEGGARS

Caller: Regarding "compassion", we should be compassionate to all sentient beings. Nowadays there are so many beggars on the road and many are pretentious beggars soliciting for some money. If, under unknown circumstances, one gave some money to such beggars; will this add-on to their karmas or bad deeds? How will it affect our own karmic debts?

Master Lu: Firstly, the compassion in you must be treated differently. You must be clear of your compassion towards yourself and other people. For example, you donated money to someone. Superficially you seemed to be compassionate towards him, whereas in reality you are the receiver. Because of your compassion, you have created good merits for yourself. Today, no matter whoever he is, as long as you showed him compassion, you have not lost anything, but instead your compassionate deed has been witnessed on earth, heaven and by all the bodhisattvas. Today he who benefited some monetary gain will not become a rich man. You will also not become poorer because of your donation; your soul will be immensely comforted through your compassionate deed. Whether he is a fraud or not, that is his karma and he will continue to commit his karmic debts. Will he be willing to kneel there? Will he pretend? He is already showing repayment of his past deeds. Would you not show him compassion? When you think this way you will understand.
Caller: Thank you, Master
