*CAN WE PERFORM RECITATION PRIOR TO WASHING FACE AND BRUSHING TEETH?*

Caller: When perform recitations, we are required to dress neatly and recite the scriptures with reverence. Let's say if we are to perform recitations prior to brushing teeth, washing face, or even while changing, is it considered as too disrespectful? I personally feel that it is inappropriate, please enlighten us, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu: First of all, it is improper to perform recitations while changing. You may still perform recitations without washing your face or brushing your teeth by reciting silently within your heart. Nevertheless, if you could wash up before performing recitations to Bodhisattva, it goes to show that you are more respectful towards Bodhisattva.

*SOW THE SEEDS OF COMPASSION AND LOVE*

When you sow the seed of compassion, you shall reap compassion; when you sow the seed of love, you shall find love perpetually revolving around you. Trust that compassion prevails in this world. A compassionate heart is able to touch the hearts of others. Even for those whose hearts have been hurt before, or those whom we considered “evil”, they will retain a portion deep inside, where it is warm where compassion thrives - a portion merely obscured by the Five Desires and Six Dusts.

*THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEMONS AND NEGATIVE KARMIC DEBTS; HOW TO RESOLVE DEMONIC DEBTS?*

Caller: Master Lu, what is the difference between Demons and negative karmic Debt?

Master Lu: In fact, demon is actually your demonic heart. I have said before that true demon has its form…..it comes from the spiritual world. However, we refer demon generally to our demonic hearts. For example, your demonic heart will surface when you could not think clearly. So, what is negative karma? When you are not able to think clearly and eventually commit an improper act, this will form the negative karma.

Caller: Oh, Master Lu had said before, to recite the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance Sutra and Little Houses to resolve the negative karmic debts, and recite Chieh Chieh Chou plus Hsiao Tsai Chi Hsiang Shen Chou to resolve the demonic debts.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Recite Heart Sutra.

Caller: Can we use a combination of the Sutras and Mantras to seek Bodhisattva’s blessings especially to eradicate our demonic debts?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, it is possible.

Caller: How should we ask Bodhisattva?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Just pray to Bodhisattva,” Please eliminate the demons from my heart”

TO COMMENT ON OTHERS BEHIND THEIR BACK IS A SERIOUS KARMA OF SPEECH

Caller: Master Lu, you mentioned that “One is half way to achieving Buddhahood when he is able to guard himself from creating karma of speech”. May I ask if karma of speech includes making comments about others behind their back?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s for sure.

Caller: So, it means, regardless of whether the other party is in the right or wrong, we shouldn’t make judgements about them, is that right?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Unless your intention is to help him, only then you can make a comment about them. Otherwise, if you do so, you are generating negative energy. If your intention is to help him and you talk to him face-to-face, this is positive energy, and as such it is not considered as creating karma of speech. For example, I am ready to help a person today. How can I avoid commenting on him? Do you regard this as creating karma of speech, then? On the other hand, if I am not with the person concerned today but I made some sharp statements and talked behind his back, it is then considered to be creating karma of speech.
