*WHY ARE THERE PEOPLE SLANDERING UPRIGHT DHARMA*

Caller: Master Lu, I refer to a discourse:“I urge all practitioners to follow the right path of Dharma practice. We should not covet benefits and favours and thereby severing our roots of Dharma cultivation, built over several generations. " Why are there people who slander upright Dharma? Is it out of greed for benefits and favours?

Master Jun Hong Lu: There are many reasons why people are defaming upright Dharma; some people do so out of jealousy while others did it with evil intentions. There are some who failed to achieve their objectives or gains over time and start to retreat from cultivation. Depending on individual 's karmic obstacles, the act of defamation could be ignited by different mentality. Thus, when a very stubborn person thinks that his view is right, he would defend his ground strongly and will not heed others' advice.

*HOW TO OVERCOME HINDRANCE THAT COMES AFTER MAKING GREAT VOW*

Caller: After a person makes a great vow, he will be endowed with the blessings from Bodhisattva and Dharma protectors. At the same time, it will also be accompanied by varied hindrances and assessments. How do we preserve firmly onto the vow and remain unperturbed by external disturbances? May Master Lu enlighten us on this?

Master Jun Hong Lu: How to hold firmly to vow? Time …. give it time. Time is the anchor for a person with great vow but not for those with weak vow. Understand?

Caller: Understand. Thank you, Master.

*REPLACEMENT OF THE FRUITS AND FLOWERS ON ALTAR WHILE THE OIL LAMP IS LIT*

Caller: Master, can we replace the fruit and flower offerings on the altar when the oil lamp is still burning?

Master Jun Hong Lu: No, as you may sustain scald injury as a result. At times, when you replace the offerings, the lit incense may scald your skin. In addition, you are not allowed to do so as it is disrespectful and you may be punished by Dharma Protector.

*AS WE REACH CERTAIN STATE IN OUR CULTIVATION, WE WILL TEND TO BE WATCHFUL OF VERBAL KARMA AND TALK LESS*

Caller: Master Lu, a fellow Buddhist friend realised lately that she has become more reserved in speech. She dislikes communicating with others and has problem expressing herself. Are these symptoms of mild autism or is it a positive state, as cultivators are supposed to guard against verbal karma by talking less and performing more recitation?

Master Jun Hong Lu: These are all possibilities.

Caller: I see.

Master Jun Hong Lu: When your cultivation reaches a certain state, your wisdom will take on a higher ground. You will start to feel that talking is an utter waste of time and energy in the human realm. You will gradually realise all words spoken leads to the creation of karma, hence you will refrain yourself from doing so. A person who takes restraint in karma creation, is a person of few words. Do you understand?

Caller: Yes.

*TREASURE THOSE AROUND US*

There was a man who frequently quarrelled with his wife. One day, his wife, collapsed out of exhaustion while doing housechores. Only at that moment, the man looked at his wife and said, “I am really sorry that I have let you down”.

Let me tell all of you, this is the beginning for a man who finally finds his innate nature. We have to treasure those around us. Just like we should cherish the bracelet and gold jewellery that we wear every day. We don’t feel that it is precious when we have it with us. However, the moment we lose them, it is then we feel extremely regretful.
