*TO CONTROL THE MOTION OF OUR MIND IS THE ESSENCE OF TAKING REFUGE IN THE RIGHT PATH*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Superficially, we see some people who are very well-kept in their dressing, but not their heart, as it is impure. The essence of taking refuge in the right path is to control our thoughts and the motion of our mind.

*WASTING TIME MEANS WASTING LIFE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: We have to cherish everything, including our time, our relationship with others and our affinity with Buddha. Time is the essence in the extension of lifespan - when one's 'time is up', their lives will cease. Hence, it is said, to waste time is to waste life. I disrespect those who are always lazy, wasting their lives, not dedicating themselves to progress, hence not achieving anything in life. Take for example, for a person who operates a small stall that hardly makes ends meet - they are wasting a big part of their lives when all they try to do is to outwit and fight one another. What good does it do? Hence, time and again, I have been telling all of you that what matters most is our spiritual cultivation. Money-making is merely a game and it is not worth it!

*THE THREE POISONS ~ GREED, HATRED AND IGNORANCE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Greed, hatred and ignorance are the three poisons that will hurt our souls like venomous snakes. Greed can lead to obsessive desires and put a strain on our spiritual well-being when such desires cannot be met.

Hatred of others, ourselves or even our society, is in fact allowing one to be immersed in evil nature. We must understand the impermanence of life. We were born into this world empty handed, and will leave with nothing when we die. Cultivate a tolerant attitude and forgiving mentality towards all matters in life. Only then can we achieve spiritual wellness.

Embrace the merciful and compassionate mentality of Bodhisattva, for this is the way for us to acquire happiness and blessings.

*THE SECRET TO LIFE*

Happiness in the human realm is temporary. However, suffering in the human realm is temporary too. As Buddhist practitioners, always remember that doing good and accruing merits is the foundation of being human. After all, only with diligence can we obtain the sweetness that comes after bitterness; only with patience under humiliation can we abandon suffering to obtain happiness; only with abiding by the precepts can we enjoy peace and prosperity; and only with Buddha’s kindness can we transcend the cycle of rebirth.

*DOING OUR UTMOST TO PROPAGATE BUDDHISM ONLINE IS CONSIDERED AN ACT OF SAVING OTHERS*

Caller: What is the spiritual status that one can attain when they do their utmost in propagating Buddhism online, without any face-to-face interaction with the beneficiaries?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Through the use of this ingenious method to help and save people, you will be able to attain the state of a Bodhisattva. In fact, as long as you do well in your spiritual cultivation, and if you manage to save ten, or twenty thousand people, you are regarded as a Bodhisattva.

*A TRUE BUDDHIST CULTIVATOR HAS NO OBSTRUCTIONS IN THEIR MIND*

Master Jun Hong Lu: A true cultivator has no obstructions in their mind. However, there are people who’d say that “I want to cultivate my mind with my utmost sincerity”. They say this because they are not sincere enough. That’s why they need to emphasise their sincerity. Do you understand?

If you are already a devoted practitioner, would you still say that “I will cultivate with my utmost sincerity?” If you are a good person, would you still need to prove to others or make announcement like, “Hei! The good man is here!”?

*MORALITY IS THE ABSENCE OF EVIL THOUGHTS AND GREED*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Please remember there are certain criteria for good and morality. What is good? It is the absence of evil thoughts and greed. Have you been greedy today? Will a greedy person be wholesome? If you have mistreated someone today or hated someone badly, do you think you are a kind person? You are a "fake do-gooder”, one who is full with hypocrisy!

*LEARN TO STOP USELESS COMPLAINTS*

Learn to put a stop to your complaints towards others. For one who complains about others incessantly will only lay the groundwork of failure for himself; because holding on to grievances is dysfunctional and will only aggravate your miseries. Therefore, to avoid failure, you will have to make the necessary preparations for success by learning to be patient.

One who is successful will never complain, bear grudges towards others or dwell on past sufferings. He will accept failure with a calm state of mind. This is the mindset of a wise man! A person who complains all the time is incapable of changing the reality; whereas an eager beaver will bring about hopes.

We should not bury our innate Buddha nature; so long as you are a true Buddha, you will illuminate the light of Buddha beyond any doubt!

*THE EXCELLENCE IN BEING HUMAN*

Master Jun Hong Lu: The inherent noble qualities of a human being is indispensable.  But, where can we find our moral qualities? In the excellence in being human - respecting the elders and loving the young, putting others before ourselves, avoid telling lies, and helping others. These are the moral qualities.
