*THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEMONS AND NEGATIVE KARMIC DEBTS; HOW TO RESOLVE DEMONIC DEBTS?*

Caller: Master Lu, what is the difference between Demons and negative karmic Debt?

Master Lu: In fact, demon is actually your demonic heart. I have said before that true demon has its form…..it comes from the spiritual world. However, we refer demon generally to our demonic hearts. For example, your demonic heart will surface when you could not think clearly. So, what is negative karma? When you are not able to think clearly and eventually commit an improper act, this will form the negative karma.

Caller: Oh, Master Lu had said before, to recite the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance Sutra and Little Houses to resolve the negative karmic debts, and recite Chieh Chieh Chou plus Hsiao Tsai Chi Hsiang Shen Chou to resolve the demonic debts.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Recite Heart Sutra.

Caller: Can we use a combination of the Sutras and Mantras to seek Bodhisattva’s blessings especially to eradicate our demonic debts?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, it is possible.

Caller: How should we ask Bodhisattva?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Just pray to Bodhisattva,” Please eliminate the demons from my heart”

钱可以买到床,但是买不到你的好睡眠;
钱可以买到珠宝,但是买不到美丽;
钱可以买房屋,但是买不到你和睦的家庭;
钱可以买娱乐,但你买不到快乐;
钱可以买食物,但你买不到食欲;
钱可以买到别人对你的恭维,但买不到别人对你的忠诚;
钱可以买到服从,但买不到别人对你的尊重;

*REASON FOR HAVING TOO MUCH DISTRACTING THOUGHTS DURING RECITATION*

Caller: When carrying out certain tasks, why is that we often feel particularly anxious, as though we wish to accomplish several tasks at once? Even our recitations are performed hastily and our minds are perpetually thinking of other things. Master, is this due to the greed in us?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Those who tend to fail in performing good recitations have too much distracting thoughts and they tend to take this human world too seriously. On the contrary, those who are truly able to transcend worldliness, are able to let go of everything in this human world as they are indifferent to it all. These are the people who will cultivate well.

Caller: Alright. Thank you Master for answering my question.

USING WISDOM AND ADOPTING INGENIOUS APPROACHES TO HELPING PEOPLE

As winter approaches, many people are saying, “I would like to save people, but I’m worried that they might not believe in Buddhist teachings, or he is wicked. Instead of saving him, I might bear the consequences of his karmic debts and land myself in deep water.”

I would like to tell everyone this story that happened during a cold winter day.

A Buddhist monk and his disciple found a snake stiff and frozen with cold, lying beside the road. The monk would have liked to save the snake, but was stopped by his disciple who said, “Master, have you forgotten the story of the Farmer and the Snake? The monk replied, “Of course not.” “Then why do you still want to save it?” asked his disciple. The monk answered, “There are many ways to save the snake. I may not use the same way as the farmer did. I don’t necessarily have to put the snake in my arms in order to save it.” Soon after, the monk picked up some firewood and lit a fire beside the road, and the snake was gradually revived by the warmth. The monk said, “There are always multiple ways to perform good deeds. The same applies to how we introduce Buddhism to people, we have to adopt diversified methods for helping people.”

When we encounter an evil person, we should not hold ourselves back from doing good deeds for fear of bearing negative consequences. As Buddhist practitioners, we should instead choose our approach to introducing Buddhist teachings to all sentient beings wisely, so that we will not be penalised for our kind-heartedness. This is what the miraculous Dharma is about; an ingenious approach. It is Wisdom that enables us to help more people to attain enlightenment.
