Master Jun Hong Lu, “There’s really no knack in performing recitation – all it takes is your Honesty, Sincerity, Wholeheartedness and your Devotion to Bodhisattva. That is all to it".

*Feedback from a Dharma friend: Attending the Singapore Dharma Convention helped to block off a life threatening situation.*

Caller: A Buddhist friend from Shanghai, who has just started cultivation, attended the recent public talk held in Singapore. Initially, he encountered difficulties applying for his visa. So, he did his recitations, made vows and liberated lives and finally had his visa approved through another channel. On the night after the public talk ended, his daughter in Shanghai dreamt that his participation in the public talk had helped to block off a life threatening incident. He is 30 years old and he felt very grateful.

Master Jun Hong Lu: There are too many such efficacious situations being feedback to Oriental Radio Station. Therefore, everyone should cherish these opportunities that Bodhisattva gives us. It would be a pity if people choose not to cultivate. I am not joking and I am really anxious for you people; it is like once you missed the shop from a particular village, you will not be able to find it elsewhere.

Caller: We can understand Master Lu’s desperation on this matter. We are very grateful towards Master Lu and Guan Yin Bodhisattva for enabling Buddhist friends who have not encountered any Dharma door or Dharma to attend such a great event, and eliminating much of their negative karmic debts at the same time.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, it is so.

Caller: Master Lu, time and again you have stressed the importance of cultivation of our mind; whereby only through proper mind cultivation that one's behavior will be dignified. To facilitate our self-check and self-reflection, can you advise us what are the benchmarks and characteristics of a person who does it well?

Master Jun Hong Lu: A person who cultivates his mind well,

1. Will not quarrel with others;
2. Will not scold others;
3. Will not hold any lustful thoughts, keeping his eyes at the right place;
4. They are refined and courteous; allowing others to speak first; they do not tell lies and neither do they incite disharmony.

These are all the characteristics of a person who cultivates well, that are obvious to others. Fundamentally, a successful person’s behavior and mannerism will resemble that of Bodhisattva's, which leads others to perceive that he bears a resemblance to Bodhisattva. Contrarily, if a person's behavior and mannerism bear no resemblance to that of Boddhisattva's, how could he possibly have cultivated well?

Caller: I understand. Thank you answering my question, Master Lu.

Public Talk, Macau

We would have to see through the world of mortals as it is transient. We have to realise that life is impermanent, as the most beautiful body is nothing but a body that houses the soul; and the most touching love story is nothing but a predestined affinity that meets and parts. Hence, face life tribulations with a smile. We must understand that all things are in a state of incessant change and our heart is immeasurable. Life’s trials and tribulations can only make us more matured. It takes strong faith to practise Buddhism to support the purity of the spiritual space in us.

Master Jun Hong Lu's Discourse (152)

Q: Master Lu has mentioned that “if we recite _*Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani*_ (Qi Fo Mie Zui Zhen Yan) and _*Heart Sutra*_ (Xin Jing) for more than 100,000 times, our prayers will become efficacious and wishes will be fulfilled”. Also, “if you make a vow for 100,000 times, then it is especially efficacious when you reach the target”. May I ask, is the 100,000 times of _*Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani*_ to be recited on top of our daily homework? Or can it be inclusive of our recitation for daily homework, _Little Houses_ and Self-Cultivation purpose?

A: The 100,000 times of _*Great Compassion Mantra*_ (Da Bei Zhou), _*Heart Sutra*_ and _*Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani*_ is not only inclusive of the recitation for daily homework and Self-Cultivation purpose, it also includes recitation for _Little Houses_.

Q: Other than the _Little Houses_ for our own karmic creditors, can the sutras and mantras of _Little Houses_ for deceased person or others to be included in this 100,000 times too?

A: All _Little Houses_ can be counted as long as they are related to you, including your karmic creditor, miscarried child, deceased person who appeared in your dream and karmic creditor of your house. However, it excludes _Little Houses_ that you recited for family members.

Q: Do we have to make vow of the said 100,000 times in front of an altar?

A: Yes, the vow has to be made in front of an altar.

Q: Do we have to state a deadline for completion? How should we pray?

A: You should set a deadline for completion when making a vow to recite 100,000 times. You may pray for anything, for instance, with _*Heart Sutra*_, you may pray for wisdom and elimination of karmic obstacles, and so on; with _*Great Compassion Mantra*_, you may pray for good health and so on; with _*Sapta Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani*_, you may pray for elimination of calamities and karmic obstacles, and so forth.
