*BEING A VEGETARIAN CAN PURIFY NOT ONLY OUR BODY AND BLOOD, BUT ALSO OUR EIGHTH CONCIOUSNESS*

Caller: Master, is it true that being a vegetarian will purify not only our body and blood, but also our Eighth Consciousness, so as to awaken our Buddha nature?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Certainly. A person who is on a vegetarian diet is very clean and pure. Physical purity creates a clean heart in you. When your heart becomes pure, Eighth consciousness will be cleansed. Thus, the more purity you achieve, the more impurity you remove.

*AIM TO ATTAIN SELFLESSNESS*

Master Lu, “The ultimate objective of cultivation is to attain the level of selflessness. As Buddhist cultivators, when met with hardships in the human realm, aim “to abandon sufferings and embrace happiness”. Think about it, cultivators emerge as a result of sufferings. In cultivation, we should aim to attain a state of emptiness. In doing so, you will be a Carefree Buddha in the human realm. My wish is that all of you will have less thoughts, less greed and less hatred; only then, can ignorance be curtailed.”

*THE EMERGENCE OF ALL KINDS OF WORRIES IN THIS WORLD ARE OPPORTUNITIES GIVEN TO US TO DISCOVER OUR SHORTCOMINGS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: The fame, status and wealth owned by a person are just temporary possession and will never bring us eternal happiness; conversely, it will create worries to us. Many people asked me: “Master Lu, what is the root cause of trouble?” Let me tell you, you are the root cause!
An angry person is one who is intolerant;
a depressed person is one who lacks sunshine in the heart;
a worried person is one who lacks wisdom;
a grieved person is one who lacks inner strength;
a hateful person is one who lacks compassion;
a jealous person is one who is daunted by inferiority complex.
Every vexation in this world is caused by ourselves. You must remember this:
The emergence of all kinds of worries in this world are opportunities given to us to discover our shortcomings.

*HOW TO IMMERSE OUR HEARTS INTO THE SCRIPTURES DURING RECITATIONS*

Caller: Master Lu ever said that we have to immerse our hearts into the scriptures whenever we perform recitations. Please enlighten us on how do we achieve it, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Listen with your ears. For example, listen to your voice when you are reciting. However, many people will fall asleep quickly while listening to their own voice. It is alright to fall asleep, just continue to recite when you are awake. Listen to your voice as you recite.

Caller: Okay, thank you Master Lu for answering my question.

*LIVE WITHOUT STRESS THROUGH THE UNDERSTANDING OF NEGATIVE ENERGIES*

Vexation is the punishment we inflict upon ourselves for the mistakes we have done; when we allowed our faults to stick in our mind and torture us long after we returned home.

Regret is when we allow the uncontrollable adverse events in the past to ruin us.

Anxiety is when we allow the virtual and probable risks that have yet to happen to frighten us.

Loneliness is when we confine ourselves in our self-erected cell.

Inferiority complex is when we slander ourselves with the strength of others; failing to understand that each person has their own strength.

Understanding these negative energies will enable us to lead a stress free life; steering away from them will allow us to gain insights, let go of our attachments and gain wisdom.

*MERITS FROM GIVING THE TEACHINGS OF BUDDHA (DHARMA DANA)*

Caller: I wish to better my self-cultivation and to dedicate myself to progress. Though I do not perform much life liberation, I do my utmost to help others awaken spiritually, and with every person I helped, I will tell him to “refrain from the act of killing, not to consume live creatures and to be a vegetarian on the 1st and 15th days of the lunar calendar months”.

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s right.

Caller: Does this measure up to the merits from performing life liberation? Or..?

Master Jun Hong Lu: The merits are even greater! This is because the Dharma Dana is the greatest among the three types of Dana; the other two being Wealth Dana and Fearlessness Dana.

*NUMBER OF _EIGHTY-EIGHT BUDDHAS GREAT REPENTANCE_ CAN BE RECITED ON BOARD A PLANE*

Caller:  Master Lu, if we are on board a plane, how many times of _*Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance*_ can we recite?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  If you are on your way to attend a Public Talk on Buddhism, you will be blessed by Bodhisattvas and hence you may recite more.  When you are on board a plane, you are close to many Bodhisattvas. Thus you may certainly recite as you wish, but not exceeding 21 times.

*Q&A SESSION WITH WORLD BUDDHIST FRIENDS, TAIWAN, OCTOBER 04, 2016*

Question:  Master Lu, if a person amassed lots of virtues but does not cultivate or perform recitations, what would be the ultimate culmination?

Answer:  You may have performed many virtuous deeds, but without cultivation or recitation, would you consider these as virtues? Without cultivation or recitations, all the acts can only be regarded as good deeds that will reap kind returns; but there are no merits to them. There is a difference between virtues and good deeds. When you perform good deeds, you will be rewarded with kind returns and that ends it all.  Should there be any karmic eruption; like car accident or chronic diseases, virtues will be able to neutralize their effect, whereas good deeds are incapable of resolving your negative karmic affinity.

*IDEAL HEIGHT OF A SHOE RACK*

Question:  If a shoe rack is 5ft high, around the height of a man, is there any concern from the metaphysics perspective?  Some people said that shoe racks should not go beyond a man’s shoulder height?

Answer:  Shoe racks must be lower than our waist’s level.
