*EMBRACE OUR INHERENT NATURE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Life is short. Why waste our precious moments worrying? Just like Guan Yin Bodhisattva, we should choose to return to a life that embraces our inherent nature. Let the deepest level of our spiritual well-being be sublimed by compassion. Let our awareness be imbued with sympathetic joy and equanimity.

*THE THREE POISONS ~ GREED, HATRED AND IGNORANCE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Greed, hatred and ignorance are the three poisons that will hurt our spiritual being like venomous snakes. Greed can lead up to obsessive desires and put a strain on our spiritual well-being when such desires cannot be met.
Hatred, be it on others, on oneself or even on the society, is in fact allowing one to be immersed in evil nature.
We must understand the impermanence of life. We were born into this world empty handed, and will leave with nothing when we die. Cultivate a tolerant attitude and forgiving mentality towards every encounter in life. Only then can we achieve spiritual wellness.
Embrace the merciful and compassionate mentality of Bodhisattva, for this is the way for us to acquire happiness and blessings.

*ALL DEEDS OF HUMANS CAN NEVER ESCAPE THE EYES OF BUDDHAS AND BODHISATTVAS*

Caller: Master Lu, kindly give me a few words of advice.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Cultivate diligently. All deeds of humans can never escape the eyes of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Don't ever think that whatever you've done will not be seen by Bodhisattva – the good deeds will be marked with red, whereas the evil ones will be marked with black by Bodhisattva. Do you understand?

Caller: Yes.

*HAVE SELF-CONTROL OVER OUR MIND AND THOUGHTS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Buddhist Dharma teaches us to exercise self-control over our mind and thoughts. If a person’s mind is filled with negative thoughts, he will be defiled and gradually find himself embedded in a negative environment.
On the other hand, a person who is able to exert control over his mind and thoughts will be able to devote himself to being proactive, kind and compassionate towards people and things around him. As such, he would be able to attract favourable, positive and kind people and things into his life. A person who is always performing kind deeds will attract people of the same attributes to perform good deeds together while a person who is always reprimanding others will be sidelined.
As Buddhist practitioners, we must be proactive, kind and learn to control our mind and thoughts. Remember, one who is able to control his temperament, keep a tight rein on his temper and harbours no desire will be able to change his destiny.
Spiritual cultivation is underlined by a simple principle - learning to let go. When we learn to live life empowered with positive energy, we will be able to bask daily in beautiful sunshine.

*ELIMINATION OF KARMIC OBSTACLES IS THE FASTEST WHEN WE ARE IN THE HUMAN REALM, SO DO NOT WASTE TIME*

Caller: Master, is it true that our karmic obstacles will be eliminated more easily while we are alive, as compared to when we are dead?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, of course! How would you be able to do so when you have become a foreign spirit? Furthermore, if you have ascended to Heaven, you are likely to get carried away easily and become too complacent to make any progress in your spiritual cultivation. In this case, how do you expect yourself to eliminate karmic obstacles? Do you understand?

Caller: Hence, I hope that everyone can cherish this life that we have and be diligent in our Buddhism practice and performing recitation.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, elimination of karmic obstacles is the fastest when in the human realm. There's no getting around it. Sadly, many people are wasting their time instead of making efforts for this purpose.

*THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: All things are a construct of the mind and the lifespan of mankind is bitter and short. Following these axioms, there is no need for us to hold notions of hatred, inequality and vexations close to our hearts as that will only cause us harm on a regular basis. In addition, living with frequent regrets will only cause us to sink deeper into a painful past where it is difficult to extricate ourselves from.

When one lives his life for the interest of others, with the knowledge that all sufferings in the human realm is temporary, he will have a goal in his mind and will find it easier to let go of things. Only then will one be liberated from sufferings and attain true happiness.

*NEGATIVE KARMA IS A BY-PRODUCT OF UN-WHOLESOME THOUGHTS.  ACQUIRE EMPTINESS OF MIND AS TAUGHT IN BUDDHISM OR LEARN TO ONLY GENERATE KIND THOUGHTS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Please remember that unwholesome thoughts led to the creation of negative karma.  It is our thoughts that led to the chained reactions in our body, actions, and speeches.  Therefore, it is imperative to learn empty mindedness in Buddhist cultivation.  Without any thoughts in mind, you will not create any karma.  If you have thoughts surfacing in your mind, they have to be wholesome. There are some people with unwholesome thoughts, thus, created negative karma for themselves.  To create karma is to plant a cause.  Why do you think a person has such heavy negative karma?  It is because he keeps creating it incessantly.

*HOW TO DEAL WITH SLANDER AND BACKBITING*

Caller: Master Lu, if slander and backbiting leads to a Buddhist friend becoming estranged with the group, how should we deal with that?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Remain in the state of unmoving suchness, just like Bodhisattva. Remember, when we are confronted with allegations, correct it if there is any basis in the allegation and guard against them if there is not. What is slander? It is like launching an arrow into the sky. If you are innocent, there is nothing for others to accuse you with. Without a target, the arrow will simply fall.

Caller: Yes!

Master Jun Hong Lu: Slandering is meaningless. If you are a target of slander, it means that you are always in that person’s mind. If you ignore them, it means that they do not affect you. However, if you let their words get under your skin, you are no better than them.

Caller: I get it. Thank you, Master Lu.

*A WORD OF ANGER MAY CAUSE A LIFETIME OF REGRET*

Master Jun Hong Lu: As Buddhist practitioner, we should refrain from cursing others. This is especially true for us who perform recitation of the _Great Compassion Mantra_ and the _Heart Sutra_. We should speak more kind words, for example, wishing others good health and wellness in all aspects of their life, which will in turn help them to draw the positive energies needed to improve their situations. When we scold others, it may seem that we have succeeded in causing others harm, however, thereupon, eternal suffering is what awaits us.
