Many people do not know the proper way to pray. All of you must learn this:

Close your eyes when you bow down. This is when you still your heart. When you lift up your head, open your eyes and look at the light of Bodhisattva, gaze at Guan Yin Bodhisattva and instantly “capture” the image. Then, once again have your eyes shut when you bow down. By doing so, you would have settled and retained Bodhisattva in your heart for all time.

Prostration should be done at a slow pace. Hasty prostration serves no purpose. There are people whom when they offer First Incense... (Master Lu demonstrated the action of offering incense hurriedly), it serves no purpose. It is only when you do it slowly, that is when you are performing it with all your heart.

Clasping both palms together represents the heart of Buddha and your heart are unified as “One”. When your fingers are joined together, it helps to clear the circulatory system.

Prostration must be performed at a slow pace as it takes a little time for Guan Yin Bodhisattva to receive your energy field and messages. When you invite Bodhisattva, it does not happen in an instant. Bodhisattva, from a place very high above, with the existence of space and time, although it is at the speed of light, it still requires a little space-time to reach here.

If I do not tell you this, how would you know? Many people have been performing prostrations all their lives without the slightest idea. That is why they never seem to have their prayers answered.

Guan Yin Citta helped to cure my breast cancer

My gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, to Master Lu, to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and to Dharma Defenders! Greetings to all guests and Buddhist friends!

It is such an honour for me to share with everyone my experience of practicing Guan Yin Citta, which helped to cure my breast cancer. May Guan Yin Bodhisattva continue helping me to reduce my karmic debts.

My parents, my daughter and I were led to Buddhism at the Dharma Convention in December 2012 in New Zealand. Shortly after, our family started to recite scriptures and adopted a vegetarian diet. Our practice brought us many benefits. Firstly, my father’s gastritis was cured. Secondly, following Master Lu’s instructions, we recited scriptures and freed fish from captivity, which cured my daughter’s quinsy and rhinitis without her undergoing surgery. She now also recites scriptures every day. Thirdly, after attending the Dharma Convention last year, Guan Yin Bodhisattva helped me to find a stable job.
I was impressed by the benefits from practicing Guan Yin Citta, however I was not as dedicated to my practice as I should have been. In April last year, I started to feel pain in my neck and back and soon found a lump on my breast. I made an appointment with a doctor for a breast examination.

In June my parents and daughter became disciples of Master Lu in the Hong Kong Dharma Convention. At the end of June, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. The cancer cells were spreading rapidly and had spread to my lungs and spine. I was told I only had 3 to 4 months to live. The doctor suggested undergoing chemotherapy to control the cancer, and lessen the weakening of my spine – especially in my neck. Such grievous news made me realize the impermanence of life. I immediately vowed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva to perform life liberation, recite great amounts of Little Houses, and read the 88 Buddhas Great Repentance 5 times every day. I sincerely repented of my sins and firmly stood in the knowledge that Guan Yin Bodhisattva would save me!

During the darkest time in my life, I was taken excellent care of by many different dharma practitioners. They helped me to perform life liberation and recite Little Houses. One of them delayed her work for a whole week to look after me in the hospital. Another practitioner kept me company all the time. Yet another practitioner brought good food to me every day despite the long distance. Nothing could ever express my gratitude towards them. I have done so little, yet the great Guan Yin Bodhisattva has given me so much.

Guan Yin Bodhisattva has continued to bless me throughout my sickness. During the worst period, I could not walk or sleep, and had to keep my back bent at all times due to the pain. I underwent chemotherapy five times, each time calling Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s name to help reduce the side effects. Mercifully, Guan Yin Bodhisattva responded to my request! After each round of chemotherapy, other than feeling nauseous and having little appetite, I did not experience any other side effects.

I cried to Guan Yin Bodhisattva every day and asked why I had such serious health problems. One night I dreamt about my previous life. In this dream I lit a fire and burnt my benefactor to death. The dream remained vividly in my mind after waking. It was shocking, yet answered my question. I understood that although I have been a good person in this life, my tumultuous marriage and poor health were the karmic consequences of my previous self’s behaviour. I cried every day when reciting the 88 Buddhas Great Repentance, yet it felt like Guan Yin Bodhisattva was listening to my repentance.

One day I was reciting the Great Compassionate Mantra on my way to the hospital when I saw the number “2353”. I understood that Guan Yin Bodhisattva was telling me the number of Little Houses I needed to recite. Since then I have recited more than 1000 Little Houses and made a vow to release 100,000 fishes from captivity. My parents helped me to recite many Little Houses despite their old age and all of the housework they had already been helping me with. As a result my health has become a lot better. I hereby sincerely repent my sins to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, to Master Lu, and to my parents!

The 3rd of August was Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day. By that day, under the blessing of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, I could walk and bend down without feeling any pain, and my blood tests were showing much healthier numbers. I could also remove my neck brace, and kneel down to offer incense to Guan Yin Bodhisattva. My doctor was very surprised. Only fellow Buddhist practitioners can understand that this miraculous recovery is all thanks to the merciful Guan Yin Bodhisattva. I now truly understand that at the Age of Dharma Decline, adverse events such as illness can come suddenly and are the results of our accumulated karmic debts. We need to understand the laws of causality and prevent misfortune by practicing Buddhism and gaining karmic merits in our life. I hereby make a vow to be committed to practicing Guan Yin Citta for the rest of my life, to become one of the thousand arms and thousand eyes of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and to help Master Lu spread the knowledge of Buddhism.

She comes to us as soon as we face any difficulties. Please answer me, have anyone of you ever experienced a very slight issue, such as you could not find your keys or something trivial happened at home, after you performed some recitation of scriptures, Guan Yin Bodhisattva has come to help. The next minute, you found what you were looking for! Has this ever happened to you?

有关念经注意力集中的问题?

问:请问卢台长我们怎么样念经才能注意集中?现在我念经时候一直有杂念会分心。请您开示。

答:念经的效果不好,其中一个原因就是念诵经文的时候注意力不集中。如念经给自己的时候想到家人,有可能一部分经文就变成念给家人了。

如何使自己念诵经文时注意力集中,可以在念经之前,先看看远处天空1-3分钟不要想任何事情,然后再念经。

念诵经文时最好是观想自己所祈求的事物或者观想大慈大悲的观世音菩萨,然后用心去听自己念经的声音,这样思想就不会乱想。

可以在平时做功课念《心经》时加一句,“请大慈大悲的观世音菩萨保佑我xxx,帮助我开智慧,使我念诵经文时注意力集中”。

如果背诵经文时杂念太多,可以拿出经文合集照着读。

念经的时候要“心气合一”(心与气场合为一体),“声气合一”(声音与气场合为一体),“身心合一”(身体与心合为一体)。如果能做到这三合一,念诵经文的效果就会非常好。

Metaphysics Q&A 157 – Offering Little Houses to untie karmic knots

Q157: I was unwise in the past, and have caused damage in my previous relationships. Now I have realised the mistakes that I have made, and I am reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) as well as the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou) to repent my wrongdoings. Do I also need to offer Little Houses? What should I do?

A157:
■The recitation of the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots is effective, provided that the damage is not severe, otherwise the negative karmic ties would still not be completely resolved. For example, you accidentally bumped into someone and you apologise, then this person forgives you and it is over. However, if you have caused injuries to this person, simply saying sorry is not enough to resolve the issue. You would need to offer Little Houses to untie karmic knots. This helps to transform and resolve negative karmic ties in a much more powerful and effective way.
■You can address the Little House to “Untie the karmic knots of <your full name>”. In the prayer you can say, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <your full name>, help me to untie karmic knots with <full name of the other person>, and to transform and resolve our conflicts.” You can also say your prayer in a general form, for example, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <your full name>, help me to untie karmic knots.”
■Little Houses to untie karmic knots are different to Little Houses for Karmic Creditors. Karmic Creditors are those to whom you owe karmic debts from your previous or present lives, or deceased people who have karmic relationships with you. You can have both positive and negative karmic relationships with your Karmic Creditors. Little Houses to untie karmic knots are specifically used for resolving negative karmic ties that were solely caused by negative karmic relationships. Other Karmic Creditors would not be able to receive them. Using Little Houses to untie karmic knots is very effective for resolving conflicts.
■Little Houses to untie karmic knots cannot replace Little Houses for Karmic Creditors. You still need to continue your offerings to your Karmic Creditors. If you feel that you are having more conflicts with others, or you wish to resolve long-term conflicts, then you can recite Little Houses to untie karmic knots in batches of 7 or 21. You can also recite the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots at the same time.
■This method is effective for resolving problems in family relationships, issues with neighbours or co-workers, and all other interpersonal conflicts.
■You can also offer Little Houses to untie karmic knots on behalf of other people. For example, if your parents often have arguments, you can help them with their relationship by addressing Little Houses to “Untie the karmic knots of <full name of your father or mother>”. Please note that you do not write both of your parents’ names down. One name is sufficient.
