*TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS THROUGH SPEECH IS A MANIFESTATION OF GREED*

Caller: How are you, Master? Would you be able to give me some advice please?

Master Jun Hong Lu: The main issue about you is greed.

Caller: In which aspect do you think I am greedier?

Master Jun Hong Lu: You are greedy for just about everything, even in your speech! You have the tendency to take advantage of others and like to win in every conversation. You have been like this in the past and you should start mending your ways now.

Who else will reprimand you now? Your unwillingness to heed the advice of others or accept their opinions is in itself, a characteristic of greed.

If you aspire to be a better person, how about heeding my advice and start working on correcting this shortcoming of yours? There’s no two ways about it. I’m very direct in my speech. Other than me, no one else dares to be so open with you.

*BE THANKFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP SENTIENT BEINGS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Those who aspire to become a Buddha or a Bodhisattva must have great resolutions. I hope that you will have a great resolution to help sentient beings in the future, just like me, your master. Do not be preoccupied with your personal gains and losses.

Enduring hardships for the sake of sentient beings is your blessing. It will gain you merit when you are able to do something for others.

Those who only live for themselves are seriously lacking in virtue. We should be considerate towards others and be of service to them.

Being able to help goes to show that you have both the energy and capacity to do so, without which, you are very much like living in vast emptiness, where you can’t even receive any positive energy. All you can gain is only worldly fame and wealth.

*WHEN YOU HELP OTHERS, YOU GAIN INFINITE WISDOM*

Master Jun Hong Lu: You need to understand that when you help others, you are the one who is benefitting. Did you know how much you gain when you help others? You gain infinite wisdom! This is how it is – when you reach out to others, you gain wisdom and the power of understanding.”

*FORBEARANCE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Be forbearing. Do not take others' faults to heart. Please remember, when you forgive others, you are holding an umbrella to your own soul, shielding you from the harm others may cause you.

*HOW TO CULTIVATE MAGNANIMITY*

Caller: Master Lu, how do we cultivate magnanimity of minds? I understand that by fostering greater sympathy and compassion, we can cultivate magnanimity. Are there other ways to achieve this?

Master Jun Hong Lu: To cultivate magnanimity, one should learn to endure humiliation, and gain great control of his emotions. These are all very important.

*SEIZE THE DAY*

Master Jun Hong Lu: The present is our only resource; the present is our only opportunity. The most important thing for us to do is to forget the past and firmly seize the day. Diligently engage in spiritual cultivation, learning Buddhism, performing recitations and life liberation. That is the only way for us to understand the true essence of Buddhism.

*IS BEING NON-COMPETITIVE AN ATTITUDE OF A NON-ACHIEVER?*

Question: Our practice of Buddhism has made us easy-going and we are not interested to contend. However, some people feel that this is an attitude of a non-achiever.

Answer: It is a matter of one’s spiritual state. For example, when you let go after learning Buddhism, in reality, this act of letting go is based on your ability to see through the reality of things.

However, there are others who let go because they cannot see through the reality of things. These are two different concepts that manifest in similar behaviour but the difference lies in the person’s level of spirituality.

*Success Comes To Those Who Persevere and Stay True to Their Spiritual Cultivation*

It’s been almost seven years since I started practising Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. My daughter played a critical role in ‘thrusting’ me into the gate of dharma. I must count my blessings for having chanced upon Guan Yin Citta at the depth of my desperation.

Without Guan Yin Citta, I would not have been able to extricate myself from the emotional roller-coasters, having to deal with a once-healthy daughter who, for some unbeknownst reason, suddenly developed mental health disorders, which medical specialists linked them to autism and depression.

*PRAYING FOR GOOD HEALTH IS NOT GREED*

Caller: How are you, Master? You have advised us to pray less for worldly blessings because it is unwise to expend our hard-earned meritorious blessings on illusory things in this world.

Does that include our daily prayer for good health, wisdom, the elimination of karmic obstacles, and wishes coming true? Should we also seek less of these?

Master Jun Hong Lu: No, it does not. This is because *only when we are in good health, are we able to continue our spiritual cultivation journey in the human realm* . Therefore, it is fundamentally alright to put forth such a prayer request. In fact, *such prayers are meritorious in nature* .

Let’s illustrate this by using me as an example: Would you be able to see me if I did not assume a human form? In the absence of a human body, I can only reside in heaven to bless and protect you, like all other Bodhisattvas.

Please remember, *it is perfectly fine to pray for good health* . In fact, good health is a necessity. Hence, such prayers are not considered a form of greed.

Master Jun Hong Lu Discourse 7 , 14 May 2014 (An Excerpt)

RECITE Eighty-Eight Buddha Great Repentance diligently when your prayers are not answered for a long time. The more remorseful you are, the more efficacious will be your prayers.

wenda20160110A 01:19:28 (Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)
RECITE 1 TIME OF THE GREAT COMPASSION MANTRA AND HEART SUTRA RESPECTIVELY BEFORE PRAYING

To enhance efficaciousness, it is best for you to recite 1 time of the Great Compassion Mantra and Heart Sutra respectively before praying. If you frequently pay respect to the Buddha, you will be recognised and your prayers will get be answered instantaneously with just a thought.

Caller: Master Lu, does that mean that when you recite the Heart Sutra, Guan Yin Bodhisattva will instantly know that you are praying for help?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s right. That is why many people misunderstand Bodhisattva as being biased although it is not the case. In fact, Bodhisattva is unable to sense your spiritual energy, hence you are not seen. Even when Bodhisattva is able to see you, you are unable to see Bodhisattva. How will you gain a spiritual connection?

PROPER WAY TO PRAY

Many people do not know the proper way to pray. Please keep this in mind:

When you bow down, close your eyes as this will help you to concentrate and stay free from distracting thoughts. When you lift up your head, open your eyes, gaze at Guan Yin Bodhisattva and instantly “capture” the image in your mind. Then close your eyes again as you bow down. By doing so, you would have retained Guan Yin Bodhisattva in your heart.

Prostration should be done at a slow pace.Hasty prostration serves no purpose. There are people who offer incense in a rush… (Master Lu imitated the action of offering incense hurriedly), it won’t be effective. By doing it slowly, you are showing your sincerity and respect.

Placing both palms together represents the unity of Buddha nature and our hearts. When you close your fingers and place your palms together, it helps clear the circulatory system.

Prostration must be performed at a slow pace as it takes a little while for Guan Yin Bodhisattva to receive your energy field and messages. When I invite Bodhisattva to come, even if she travels at the speed of light, it still takes a little while for her to get here as she’s coming from a very high realm.

How will you know about this if I do not tell you? Many people have been performing prostrations all their lives without knowing the essence, which is why they never seem to have their prayers answered.
