*DO NOT CLING ONTO DESIRES*
Life is impermanent and lies between our in and out breaths.
A person who is encumbered by the human realm’s ceaselessly demanding desires will rapidly forget their innate nature and conscience.
A person who always pushes himself to achieve greater fame and fortune will gradually lose the innate wisdom.
A Buddhist practitioner needs to understand that in the human realm where the law of causation dictates, there is no right or wrong as all things develop and conclude naturally.
Needless to say, one will let nature take its course instead of creating hindrances for sentient beings with such an understanding.
We must learn to concede, as compromise will make a conflict easy to resolve. Only through cherishing the moment and letting go can we grasp the present for a better tomorrow. Indeed, the wisdom of Buddhism is the best medicine for resolving depression in the human realm.

*DEVELOP COMPASSION AS ONE’S THOUGHTS IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE WHEN PERFORMING LIFE LIBERATION*
Caller: Master Lu, if we liberate softshell turtles with the wish to extend our lifespan, do we need to ensure the survival of the turtles?
Master Jun Hong Lu: If you release softshell turtles that have already died, do you think it is considered ‘liberating lives’ ?
Caller: I think what this Buddhist friend meant was, at the point of liberation, the turtles were still alive. However, they did not survive after which.
Master Jun Hong Lu: How would they know? Life and death spares no one. What is most important in performing life liberation is the thoughts you have at the point of performing the act.
Caller: I see. That means the idea of a successful life liberation lies in one’s intention and it has nothing to do with what happens after the liberation …
Master Jun Hong Lu: Glad you know that. How many years can you make the fish live? Rather, life liberation is about the cultivation and the development of compassion in us.
Caller: I understand. Thank you Master Lu.

*OUR MINDS ARE JUST LIKE A MIRROR*
Master Jun Hong Lu: In actuality, we are often able to differentiate between good and bad people with a glance. This is because our minds are just like a mirror. When we reflect the evil in the human realm, all that we will see are the evil appearances it revealed.
What we should hope for is to reflect all the kindness in the human realm. With that, our minds will be filled only with kind things.
It is only when one’s mind is free from all thoughts and worries that they truly reflect the realisation that the five aggregates are but an illusion.

*HOW TO DEAL WITH VEXATIONS BROUGHT ABOUT IN THE COURSE OF PURSUING COMFORT IN LIFE*
Caller: In our pursuance of comfort in life, we frequently have to work hard and deliberate on many issues, resulting in increasing vexations. How do we maintain the equilibrium between our life and troubles caused by external factors? Hope Master Lu could enlighten us.
Master Jun Hong Lu:
Do not succumb to greed. Always tell yourself, “I am contented with what I have. I do not need more, thank you.” By doing so, you will not covet for more. It is due to greed that intensifies your acquisitive drive and leads you to pursue endless desire for more. Eventually, you will find yourself landing in more troubles.
The best solution to avoid such vexations is to be contented and let go of what you have been clinging on. A person who is pre-occupied with discontentment and unhappiness is in a way mentally unsound. Do you understand?
Caller: Yes, I do. Thank you for sharing, Master Lu.

*DILIGENT CULTIVATION CAN CHANGE OUR DESTINY*
Master Jun Hong Lu: As Buddhist practitioners, we know that practising Buddhism allow us to have the capability to control our mood, temperament as well as our fate and destiny. We sympathise with those whom we see fly into a rage often, as they are just like wild horses that have lost their reins and will only cause injury to themselves.
Therefore, as Buddhist practitioners, we should not argue with others but cultivate our behaviour with diligence instead. From this, others will then have a whole new level of respect for us. In essence, this is the state of mind of Buddhas; a state where we see through the nature of things in the human realm, learn to let go and be liberated.

To test how deep the water is, simply throw in a stone. People who brag about themselves are like a stone hitting shallow water; they make a big splash. Modest people are always silent, just like a stone thrown into deep water.

*ABSENCE OF RESENTMENT IN A TRUE BUDDHIST PRACTITIONER*
Caller: I am one of Master Lu’s followers. However, I still harbour feelings of resentment and vengeance within every time I encounter a difficult situation. Why is this so?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Everything happens as a result of karma. A true Buddhist practitioner is one who is compassionate and able to forget the shortcomings of others. If you are compassionate, you should not hate others. If you still harbour thoughts of resentment and vengeance, it shows that you are still lacking in your cultivation. We can only try our best to advise people who we have lower expectations of, not to hate others.
Resentment cannot resolve your problems but will only hurt you. For example, say you hate a person to the core and eventually get them landed in jail for five years. When they almost complete his jail term, you would be terrified, as you would be unable to anticipate what they will do to seek revenge against you after their release from prison. Such torment will go on forever. Therefore, a true Buddhist practitioner must not hate others. Let bygones be bygones and you will be able to avoid a disaster.

*KEEPING TO YOUR ORIGINAL ASPIRATION LEADS YOU TO SUCCESS*
Master Jun Hong Lu: To avoid failure in life, we have to be cautious and adopt an unyielding attitude. Most people can only sustain brief periods of enthusiasm. When the initial excitement dies off, they choose to simply muddle along, wasting their life just like that. As the saying goes, ‘Keeping to your original aspiration leads you to success’ - we have to learn restraint and to be single-minded as only this may ensure that our lifetime of cultivation will not be in vain.

*ELIMINATION OF KARMIC OBSTACLES IS THE FASTEST WHEN WE ARE IN THE HUMAN REALM, SO DO NOT WASTE TIME*
Caller: Master, is it true that our karmic obstacles will be eliminated more easily while we are alive, as compared to when we are dead?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, of course! How would you be able to do so when you have become a foreign spirit? Furthermore, if you have ascended to Heaven, you are likely to get carried away easily and become too complacent to make any progress in your spiritual cultivation. In this case, how do you expect yourself to eliminate karmic obstacles? Do you understand?
Caller: Hence, I hope that everyone can cherish this life that we have and be diligent in our Buddhism practice and performing recitation.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, elimination of karmic obstacles is the fastest when in the human realm. There's no getting around it. Sadly, many people are wasting their time instead of making efforts for this purpose.
