*LEARN TO TRANSFORM BITTERNESS TO HAPPINESS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: One should learn to transform bitterness into happiness. After all, being contented with what we have and having little to no desires will allow us to cleanse our heart. The truth of our universe is that we can eliminate and transform our karma when we suffer. Hence, the more we suffer, the faster we can eliminate our karma. Once we eliminate these karmic obstacles, good fortune will follow.

ONE WHO IS ABLE TO SEE THROUGH THE REALITY OF THINGS WON'T SPEND MUCH TIME DOLLING UP

Caller: I dreamed that a Buddhist practitioner was wearing a pair of red sunglasses and looked very fashionable.

Master Jun Hong Lu: If one looks very fashionable, there will definitely be less room for Buddha's teachings in the person's mind. Those who are able to see through the reality of things won't spend a lot of time on themselves.

*DO NOT TAINT OUR BUDDHA-NATURE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: A mere thought can determine if we are a Buddha or a demon. That's how it goes. If you hold a Buddhist book in your hand and say those sacred words of the Buddha but at the same commit numerous negative karma of speech, you are tainting your own Buddha-nature and virtue.

*A GOOD MENTAL ATTITUDE IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE AS IT WILL BRING ABOUT AN INCREASE IN ONE’S POSITIVE ENERGY*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Regardless of our endeavour, it is paramount that we should first regulate our mental attitude. A good attitude will lead to success in resolving any issue, while a negative one may simply frustrate the matter at hand. It is through a positive attitude that we are able to do more things that make us happy and derive positive energy from them. Also, the more we do such tasks, the happier we tend to be.

*OVERINDULGENCE IN FOOD AND SLEEP WILL LEAD TO INCREASED IGNORANCE AND LUST*

Caller: Master Lu, I did not do well in cultivation recently and I am ashamed of it. I could not correct a lot of my shortcomings and my heart is filled with anger and hatred. I also could not get through to Master on the phone. But Bodhisattva is compassionate and has helped me get through today. I would like to repent to you Master.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Eat less spicy food, understand?

Caller: Yes. I overindulge in food and sleep.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Overindulgence in food and sleep will lead to increased ignorance and lust.

Caller: Yes, I understand.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Sometimes you have to give yourself some pressure and get a grip of it. You are a Bodhisattva; you are learning from Bodhisattva. You are a human being, not an animal, don't you understand it?

Caller: I understand it, Master, I was wrong. I did not cultivate well, please forgive me.

Master Jun Hong Lu: OK, perform your recitation diligently. Bodhisattva has only two types of children - one is those who have never erred, and the other one is those who will correct their mistakes promptly. Understand?

Caller: Yes, Master. You are working so hard, and yet I am always causing you trouble. I dreamed of you this morning, you taught us Buddhism in Plain Terms in the dream.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Alright, learn diligently from me.

Caller: Thank you, Master.

*BE COMPASSIONATE AND ALLOW OUR HEART TO BE LIKE THE SEA*

Master Jun Hong Lu: See the world through your heart, not your eyes, and you will find the world to be boundless. Treat others with compassion and your heart will be as encompassing as the vast ocean, which admits hundreds of rivers. In our quest to be liberated from our worries, wisdom and our true sentiments should be made our ally.

*SEE OTHERS WITH A BALANCED POINT OF VIEW*

Master Jun Hong Lu: As Buddhist, we should learn to forgive and not misjudge others with our evil knowledge and thoughts. If you can't take control of your heart and fail to see others with a balanced point of view, you will be looked down by others in the end.

*MAINTAIN OUR HUMILITY AND REMEMBER TO KEEP OUR HEAD DOWN*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Many of us may be outstanding in our own unique ways; though so, we should not forget that no matter how good we think we are, there is always someone out there who is better. Hence, always remind ourselves to keep our head down and be humble; let us be steadfast in our endeavours and we will realize there are so many more people who will hold us in high regard. A genuinely successful person, will still shine when he keeps his head down and he will be respected and held in esteem by others.
