*LIVE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT*
Lord Buddha once told us, we can only live in the present moment. He told us to live this very day, in this very moment. We can never go back to yesterday, neither can we have tomorrow come to us in advance. To live in the present is to live your life today. Work your best today and you shall forget about your past sufferings; learn Dharma today and so you shall gain tomorrow’s happiness.

*THE TYPES OF SUTRAS AND MANTRAS TO BE RECITED DURING VOLUNTEERING*
Question: Master Lu, you mentioned previously in one of your radio programs that virtues will only be gained when a person performs recitation during volunteering. In this case, may I know which sutras or mantras and the number of times we should recite? How should we say our prayers to Bodhisattva?
Answer: You may recite _*Heart Sutra*_ (Xin Jing) and _*Great Compassion Mantra*_ (Da Bei Zhou). If you feel that you are very ‘clean’ and possess great virtues, you may recite _*Guna Ratna Sila Dharani*_ (Gong De Bao Shan Shen Zhou), which will immediately convert all your good deeds and merits into virtues. However, one must have a very clean mind, and should not keep looking at other men or women with a lustful intent. Otherwise, it is completely futile even after reciting.

*DESIRE WILL ONLY LEAD US TO SUFFERING*
We must understand that our desires should never be taken for our hopes in life. There are many who have yearnings all their lives, “I want a television, I want a car, I want a bungalow, I want….”. These are all desires which should never be taken for our hopes in life, because unfulfilled desires will lead us to sufferings. When a person has incessant desires in life, and failed to attain what he desires, he will go through extreme sufferings. That is when all hopes are lost in life.
