*WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF RECITATION PROCEDURE FOR LIFE LIBERATION*
Caller: Master, please enlighten us on what is the purpose of the recitation procedure before liberating the fishes?

Master Lu: Life liberation procedure represents your heart because when you are liberating lives, the Dharma protectors and Bodhisattva will be present. This is also why so many people could see the auspicious cloud in the sky while liberating the captive lives. Sometimes, this auspicious cloud is actually Bodhisattva on it but many people could not see. They could only see the auspicious cloud, “Gosh, this cloud is so beautiful”, “Goodness, rainbow colours too”....In reality, if you could see through the inner side, you would be able to see Bodhisattva but only that you won’t be able to see. Whenever Master brought you all to liberate the captive lives, I was able to see Bodhisattva.

Caller: What will you do when you are able to see Bodhisattva?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Tell Bodhisattva: “Guan Yin Bodhisattva, please take pity on these sentient beings. Today, we are liberating lives to release them from captive, in so doing; we are also releasing ourselves and cultivating compassion to free sentient beings from sufferings. Following that, seek blessings for good health for your parents and yourself… This way your words will be heard by Bodhisattva and Dharma protectors. Think about it, when you delivered such a speech before freeing the captive lives, won’t your merits be enhanced?

Caller: Yes, Master Lu.

Master Jun Hong Lu: And won’t it be easier for Bodhisattva to accede to your request.

Caller: Yes, indeed.

*AIM TO ATTAIN SELFLESSNESS*

Master Lu, “The ultimate objective of cultivation is to attain the level of selflessness. As Buddhist cultivators, when met with hardships in the human realm, aim “to abandon sufferings and embrace happiness”. Think about it, cultivators emerge as a result of sufferings. In cultivation, we should aim to attain a state of emptiness. In doing so, you will be a Carefree Buddha in the human realm. My wish is that all of you will have less thoughts, less greed and less hatred; only then, can ignorance be curtailed.”

*THE SIZE OF AN ALTAR IS INCONSEQUENTIAL; WHAT MATTER MOST TO BODHISATTVA IS OUR SINCERITY, NOT THE SIZE OF OUR ALTAR*

Caller: My house is small and so is my altar, which is placed in my bedroom. Do you think this is proper?

Master Jun Hong Lu: It is alright. It doesn’t matter if your altar is small. What matters most to Bodhisattva is your sincerity and not the size of your altar. Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s mercifulness embraces all sentient beings, not solely the wealthy ones.

*WHICH SCRIPTURE TO RECITE AND HOW TO SAY OUR PRAYERS WHEN FACED WITH CHOICES*

Caller: From the metaphysical aspect, what is the type of karmic retribution for a person who is always faced with choices since making decisions can be painful? Based on this question, which scripture should we recite and how should we say our prayers to Bodhisattva when we encounter choices?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Recite the _*Heart Sutra*_, and say ‘May Guan Yin Bodhisattva help me to make a choice’. After reciting 21 times of the _*Heart Sutra*_, ponder quietly and you will probably have arrived at a decision by then.

*HOW TO RESOLVE UNHAPPINESS AND TROUBLES THAT HARRIED US*

Generally, under such situations, you have to recite more *_Heart Sutra_* and to find specific way to solve each individual problem. Your prayer to Guan Yin Bodhisattva will be, "May Guan Yin Bodhisattva have mercy on me. Recently, I am harried by a particular issue. May Guan Yin Bodhisattva have mercy on me. I would like to recite 108 times of the *_Heart Sutra_* to help me resolve the karmic knots. May Guan Yin Bodhisattva bless wisdom upon me and help me transcend the secular mindset". Because of the statement "transcend the secular mindset", Bodhisattva will help to elevate your state of mind and will soon be able to come round. It is extremely efficacious!

To practise Buddhism in the human realm is extremely challenging and it amounts to our perceptual ability. As such, enlightenment is the ultimate objective of a person who practises Buddhism. It is the key that guides us to eliminate the vexations of the human realm. I hope you will truly understand the meaning of being enlightened. When we are able to come round and make peace with something, or to come to a realization and when we say, “I am not bothered anymore, everything is fine with me”. This is the essence of enlightenment.
