The following case is extracted from “International Buddhist Conference with Master Lu” Grand Dharma Function in Malaysia on 28 August 2011. Master Lu performed Totem Enquiries live on stage and answered questions from the audience to help them overcome difficulties in their health, career, and everyday issues.

When a person is asking Master Lu to perform Totem Enquiry, if a living person is being enquired, then the year of birth and the Chinese zodiac sign of that person should be stated. If a deceased person is being enquired, then the full name of the deceased and the exact written characters of the name should be stated.

Enquirer: Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Master Lu. Could you please take a look at my child, born in 1978, year of the Horse.

Master Lu: 1978.

Enquirer: Year of the Horse. He has intellectual disability. Three days ago, the doctors diagnosed him with leukaemia.

Master Lu: Ah-ya. All of you take a look, and think about it. People living in this world are so unfortunate. This mother… How old is your child?

Enquirer: Born in 1978, 34 years old.

Master Lu: 34 years old. This afternoon, didn’t I tell you? There is Karmic Passes at the age of 33. Do you understand? Intellectual disability and now diagnosed with leukaemia. You see, a mother like this… A mother sees her son about to pass away. All of you think about it, in this world, how many people are suffering? Shouldn’t we save them? Today, Master Lu let all of you know about this Dharma Door, such a wonderful Dharma Door. You tell me, shouldn’t we save all those who are suffering?

Audience: We should!

Master Lu: Let me take a look for you. Born in 1978, what’s the Chinese zodiac sign?

Enquirer: Year of the Horse.

Master Lu: There is a powerful foreign spirit occupying his body.

Enquirer: That’s right.

Master Lu: How do you know?

Enquirer: We’ve known for a long time, it’s just that we didn’t know how to cure it.

Master Lu: In fact, your son who has intellectual disability, he would often talk to himself.

Enquirer: Yes.

Master Lu: This is because this foreign spirit wants to forcefully take him away from this world. Do you understand?

Enquirer: I understand.

Master Lu: Okay? Let me tell you, perhaps he can still be saved.

Enquirer: Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Master Lu, please save him.

Master Lu: You see, the calling for help from a mother. Poor thing. Therefore, I hope that all of you will cultivate mindfully and sincerely. Now let me tell all of you, Master Lu can still save him. Alright? So you should recite Little Houses for him. The number is quite large. Okay? There are two steps. First of all, now we need to stabilise his blood. In his blood, there’s a type of secretion. There’s something harmful in his blood.

Enquirer: Yes.

Master Lu: But these things that are related to blood can still be changed. This is the first step. But the second step is related to his mental and spiritual problems. This is because in the past you haven’t heard of Master Lu’s Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. If at that time, you had gradually improved the condition of this intellectually disabled child, just like a few of the people before you… If you had gradually improved your child’s condition by performing recitations, then he wouldn’t have leukaemia. Do you understand? This is because all children who are intellectually disabled are in fact tortured by foreign spirits. They’re tortured for a certain period of time, and then the foreign spirits would take the children’s life away. This is because the foreign spirits come for revenge. Do you understand? Therefore, first of all, you must stabilise the leukaemia by sincerely requesting the help of Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Then you can do the second step. What do you do? You can then perform the transferring of merits for the foreign spirit that’s occupying his mind and help the foreign spirit to proceed to a better place.

Enquirer: Master Lu, what should I do?

Master Lu: Recite the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) 49 times per day. This can cure your son’s problems relating to blood. Then you should recite another batch of the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) 49 times per day. You also need to recite 1008 Little Houses. This is specifically for repaying the foreign spirit that is occupying your son’s body. You just need to state the number to the foreign spirit. You can say, “I, <full name>”, you state this to the foreign spirit today, “I will definitely complete the recitation of 1008 Little Houses within <a certain amount of time>.” After that, the foreign spirit will gradually leave and the condition of your child will stabilise. It’s okay that he’s intellectually disabled for the time being, you can take your time to start resolving that as well. He has already reached the period of karmic retribution. If you hadn’t encountered Master Lu today, if you knew Master Lu a bit later… If you came here a bit later, then perhaps you only have the chance to visit your child in the cemetery. Alright? But I can only extend his life for a bit longer. Let the timeframe be extended for a bit longer. But afterwards, whether he can be saved or not depends on yourself. Do you understand?

Enquirer: Okay. I understand. Master Lu, I would like to ask about myself. Born in 1956, year of the Dog. How’s my Totem?

Master Lu: Ah. You are a person who has a tough life. You were destined to work hard and you can’t rest. Your life is very bumpy. Your previous life was not good. You were a man in your previous life. Do you understand? You committed wrongdoings. So your relationship fortune is not good. Do you understand? In your life, you were destined to have at least two marriages.

Enquirer: That’s correct.

Master Lu: Do you understand? Okay. Now that you know about it, then how to resolve your problems from your previous lives?

Enquirer: Reform and start afresh, dedicate to Buddhism from the heart, dedicate to Buddhism with a sincere mind.

Master Lu: Ah, reform and start afresh, you’re merely reciting a catch-phrase. Do you understand? You need to recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen). People may tell you that, reform and start afresh, leniency for those who are honest. Let me tell you, it’s not going to help. You need to recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen). Recite it 7 times per day, and recite Little Houses. Wait and see if you’ll get better. Do you know? In your uterus, I just saw that there are cysts. Do you understand?

Enquirer: I didn’t know about that.

Master Lu: You didn’t know. You will know as soon as you have a medical examination. Master Lu is truly amazing. Can see everything.

Enquirer: I would like to ask Master Lu, when I recite Repentance…

Master Lu: Recite what? Recite coffee?

Enquirer: Ah. Repentance.

Master Lu: Ah. Repentance.

Enquirer: Repentance. Anything else I should recite? The Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou)?

Master Lu: The Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou). I just told you, 49 times per day.

Enquirer: The Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching).

Master Lu: Recite the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) 21 times per day. Recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) 7 times per day. Do you understand?

Enquirer: What about Little Houses?

Master Lu: Recite Little Houses mindfully and sincerely. I just told you, 1008 Little Houses. Oh no, old problems are not solved, and now you even have amnesia. We had an agreement just now. Do you understand?

Enquirer: I understand.

Master Lu: Alright.

Enquirer: Thank you, Master Lu.

大家想一想，观世音菩萨如果到人间来救人，他会收钱吗？菩萨难道只救富人，不救穷人吗？要明白，真正地帮助人家，要无私奉献，要慈悲为怀，要普度众生，才能有求必应啊。台长把大家都当成朋友、当成亲人，大家都来学佛，人间才会成为净土，净土是靠我们做出来的，闭门即是深山，念佛即是净土。

Metaphysics Q&A 157 – Offering Little Houses to untie karmic knots

Q157: I was unwise in the past, and have caused damage in my previous relationships. Now I have realised the mistakes that I have made, and I am reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) as well as the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou) to repent my wrongdoings. Do I also need to offer Little Houses? What should I do?

A157:
◾The recitation of the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots is effective, provided that the damage is not severe, otherwise the negative karmic ties would still not be completely resolved. For example, you accidentally bumped into someone and you apologise, then this person forgives you and it is over. However, if you have caused injuries to this person, simply saying sorry is not enough to resolve the issue. You would need to offer Little Houses to untie karmic knots. This helps to transform and resolve negative karmic ties in a much more powerful and effective way.

◾You can address the Little House to “Untie the karmic knots of <your full name>”. In the prayer you can say, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <your full name>, help me to untie karmic knots with <full name of the other person>, and to transform and resolve our conflicts.” You can also say your prayer in a general form, for example, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <your full name>, help me to untie karmic knots.”

◾Little Houses to untie karmic knots are different to Little Houses for Karmic Creditors. Karmic Creditors are those to whom you owe karmic debts from your previous or present lives, or deceased people who have karmic relationships with you. You can have both positive and negative karmic relationships with your Karmic Creditors. Little Houses to untie karmic knots are specifically used for resolving negative karmic ties that were solely caused by negative karmic relationships. Other Karmic Creditors would not be able to receive them. Using Little Houses to untie karmic knots is very effective for resolving conflicts.

◾Little Houses to untie karmic knots cannot replace Little Houses for Karmic Creditors. You still need to continue your offerings to your Karmic Creditors. If you feel that you are having more conflicts with others, or you wish to resolve long-term conflicts, then you can recite Little Houses to untie karmic knots in batches of 7 or 21. You can also recite the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots at the same time.

◾This method is effective for resolving problems in family relationships, issues with neighbours or co-workers, and all other interpersonal conflicts.

◾You can also offer Little Houses to untie karmic knots on behalf of other people. For example, if your parents often have arguments, you can help them with their relationship by addressing Little Houses to “Untie the karmic knots of <full name of your father or mother>”. Please note that you do not write both of your parents’ names down. One name is sufficient.

To save your mind from disintegrating

and your consciousness from intoxication,

you should refrain from immersing in thoughts of desire.


You must constrain yourself, control yourself,

and be mindful and aware of your own spiritual growth.

Type of Painting Suitable for Home

Lady Listener: Greetings, Master Lu! I would like to enquire on some daily life issues. We have just moved to a new house, which has a better environment, more spacious and brighter. In our old house, we used to display our own artwork on the wall. Currently, we are leaving the wall empty as we wanted to consult you if we can put up our paintings of birds and flowers, or scenery. I understand that displaying paintings of birds that is large in size, such as peacocks are not so appropriate.

Master Lu : Yes, that is correct. Small ones are alright. Try to put up nice paintings that make you feel comfortable when you look at it.

Lady Listener : I was planning to put up a painting of lotus in my living room.

Master Lu : Yes, that’s very good. Lotus are beautiful flowers!

Lady Listener : What do you think of peony? Is the flower too big? Would it attract ......?

Master Lu: Peonies are alright.

Lady Listener : So I gather, any paintings of camellia, birds and flowers, as long as the image of the birds are not too big that would be fine?

Master Lu : That’s correct. Small birds in a flower painting is fine. To rephrase, it is peach blossom that should not be displayed, peonies are alright.

Lady Listener : Yes, I am aware that plum blossom are also not appropriate. Last time, I was not aware of this, my father was the one who taught me how to paint. After knowing this, when I visited him, I changed the painting to other flowers.

Master Lu : Some flowers brings you dharma bliss when you look at it. Others, brings back memories, while some may bring sadness. That is why you should choose what to put up carefully.

Lady Listener : Thank you for your advice.

REASONS FOR EXPERIENCING LIMITED IMPROVEMENT FROM PRACTICE

Q153: Master Lu, I have health issues. For the past 10 months I have been practising Buddhism but my condition has not improved. Why is that?

A153:

First of all, ensure that you are performing the recitations of sutras and mantras exclusively under the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. All sutras and mantras are good, but the combination for recitation is very important. Similarly, all medicines can be effective for healing, however, if we consume every kind of medicine then the result would be undesirable. It is better to only follow the prescription given by the doctor you are seeing.

Ensure that the proper amount of Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou), Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching), and Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance are included in your Daily Recitation. The effectiveness would be reduced with an insufficient amount of Great Compassion Mantra or Heart Sutra. If you recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance too many times, then you may activate your negative karmas excessively, hence exacerbating your condition. For people with severe illnesses, reciting the Great Compassion Mantra at least 21 times per day is required, but 49 times is optimal. For people with mental illness, reciting theHeart Sutra at least 21 times per day is required. Under normal conditions, it is recommended to recite the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance 1 to 3 times per day. People with severe illnesses can recite this 3 to 5 times per day. Please ensure that you are not reciting it more than 7 times per day, as you may activate your negative karmas excessively.

While you diligently perform your Daily Recitation, ensure that you are also reciting a sufficient number of Little Houses, which is closely related to the number of Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance that you include for your Daily Recitation. Otherwise, you may experience discomfort or an exacerbation of your condition. Generally, you would need 3 Little Houses for your Karmic Creditor per week if you were reciting the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance 3 times per day. Daily Recitation is similar to your daily expenditure, whereas Little Houses are similar to loan repayments. We all need to mindfully repay our debts.

Ensure that you are performing your recitations appropriately. Are you recitingLittle Houses with a sincere and respectful mind? Are you filling in the Little Houses in the right format? Is the name correct? All of the above are important factors for the quality ofLittle Houses, which determines the resulting effectiveness. Ensure that you are using the right name. If you have changed your name, please lodge the Application for Name Change first, and then perform recitations using your new name.

The effectiveness is also related to the spiritual power of each individual. With limited spiritual power, the results may not be significant. We can enhance our spiritual power by increasing the amount of recitations for our Daily Recitation.

Your attitude while you perform recitations is also very important. If you harbour doubts, complaints, and unwillingness in your mind, then the quality of your recitations would be affected. Distracted thoughts and an unfocused mind during recitation would also affect the quality.

In the case where you are performing recitations for others while your own condition is not optimal, you may take responsibility for the karma of the other party. As a result, your recovery may be delayed. Helping others is a virtuous deed, but it is always associated with a cost. We need to evaluate and be aware of our capability when helping others.

For our prayers to be efficacious, we need to accumulate a large amount of virtues. It is recommended that you also sincerely and mindfully perform Life Liberation and make Great Vows.

If none of the above answers your question, then it may simply be because you have not done enough. For a person with severe negative karmas, it would be difficult to have dramatic changes within a short period. As we continue to diligently and persistently practise Buddhism for a period of time, positive results will be achieved.

台长答：如果这个人有杀业、有业障，最好念点往生咒（我们怎样判断他有杀业？）他自己感觉到很不顺利（哦，往生咒就多念，那其他……消灾吉祥神咒和准提神咒呢？）准提神咒是求顺利的，消灾吉祥神咒是求他没有灾难的。但是顺利不顺利，实际上还是往生咒，因为很多的阻碍都是来自于杀业（好好）

For beginners who have just started to learn daily recitation, besides the three main mantras and sutra, i.e. Great Compassion Mantra, Heart Sutra and Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance Mantra, what are other essential short mantras?

Master Lu : If the person has karma of killing or karmic obstacles, it is best for him to recite Wang Sheng Zhou.

Listener : But, how do we determine one has karma of killing?

Master Lu: He would feel that there are a lot of hindrances in his life.

Listener : Oh! I see, so what about Xiao Zai Ji Xiang Shen Zhou and Zhun Ti Shen Zhou?

Master Lu: Zhun Ti Shen Zhou is to pray for things to go smoothly whereas Xiao Zai Ji Xiang shen Zhou is to help disperse calamities. However, for a life free from obstacles, Wang Sheng Zhou is most crucial. This is because most obstacles stem from the karma of killing.

Reciting Scriptures with Great Sincerity Cures the Lithangiuria of a Seventy-Year-Old Lady

Deepest gratitude to the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, to the merciful Master Lu and to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Dharma Defenders!

Ms Yan, a Dharma follower of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, would like me to share her inspirational experience because she does not know how to operate a computer. She is now 70 years old and has been practicing Buddhism for many years. She used to practice the Jing Tu Dharma Door and then less than two years ago, she started practicing the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. In 2014, we met at the Hong Kong Dharma Function and since then, we have been performing life liberations together.

In November 2014, while we were buying fishes for the life liberation activity, Ms Yan told me that she was diagnosed with lithangiuria and hematuria which cause her extreme pain while she urinates. Suddenly, she did not feel too well and was sweating all over. I was worried about her and told her to go home, get some rest, offer incense to the Guan Yin Bodhisattva and burn Little Houses.

In December, I met Ms Yan again during our life liberation activity. She told me that her lithangiuria has been cured and was not experiencing any more pain! She did not go to the hospital. Instead, she stayed at home, recited scriptures, prayed to the Guan Yin Bodhisattva and burned 2-3 Little Houses every day for her karmic creditors. After the first few days, she felt much better and on the ninth day, she did not feel any pain. The symptoms of her hematuria also disappeared! When she went in for a re-examination, her doctor found it quite incredible that she was cured within such a short period of time. Ms Yan told me that after her experience, she has developed a strong faith in the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and has applied to become Master Lu’s disciple in 2015!

The numerous inspirational stories that are shared by Dharma followers suggest that the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is genuine! The Guan Yin Bodhisattva takes care of us all the time and the Little Houses are very effective! We should be persistent in cultivating ourselves and practicing the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door under the guidance of Master Lu. We should introduce Buddhism to more people so they can stay away from pain and be blessed by the Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
