*THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTIVATING COMPASSION*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Compassion can increase one’s longevity and nurture one’s positive energy. When we witness the compassion of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, we learn that one should always aim to be free from the notion of self — never to be overly selfish but instead, to be ever willing to sacrifice ourselves in the service of others. Only then can we advance from a superficial understanding of Buddhist teachings towards grasping the true essence of Buddha wisdom.

*SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT IS THE KEY TO EARNING MERITS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: If a person casually talks about Buddhas and Bodhisattvas without truly understanding and putting Buddhism into practice, his merits would be reduced to almost nothingness.

If a person lacks in-depth understanding and practice of the dharma method and Buddhism teachings, he would have no merits at all.

When your state of spirituality is elevated, your attainment from the things you do will correspondingly be elevated.

If you do something from your heart, you will be blessed from a spiritual level.

Conversely, if you do something superficially, what you receive will be nothing more than a superficial reciprocation.

*DO NOT PURSUE FAME AND MATERIAL WEALTH*

Master Jun Hong Lu: As Buddhist practitioners, we should not pursue worldly desires like fame, material wealth and pleasure of enjoyment. Think about it, if you bite into a rotten apple plucked from a tree, you will soon realise the change in taste.

Every gain in this elusive and transient life inevitably contains suffering. Hence, to avoid the pain of loss we must let go of our insistence on planting the seeds of cause. This elusive and transient life is a world apart from the reality; just like a filthy place in the human realm can never be clean and untainted.

*THE BUDDHIST MENTALITY OF LETTING GO*

Master Jun Hong Lu: We live in agony because we care too much; we hurt ourselves and others because we are filled with doubt. Take things lightly and we will live life happily; learn to let go and we will gain wisdom. After all, we exist as mere visitors in heaven and earth — our relationships with all matters in the world are entirely governed by the law of causality and the affairs of our youth are lost in the past. Hence, the Buddhist mentality of letting go is about understanding the law of causality and having the ability to accord with all conditions.

BE COMPASSIONATE AND ALLOW OUR HEART TO BE LIKE THE SEA

Master Jun Hong Lu: See the world through your eyes, and the world appears small; See the world through your heart, and you will find the world to be boundless. Treat others with compassion and your heart will be as encompassing as the vast ocean, which receives hundreds of rivers. There are many matters in life where we must rely on our wisdom and genuine intentions to resolve our troubles.

*PRACTISE FORBEARANCE AND ELIMINATE RESENTMENT*

Master Jun Hong Lu:
Everyone has negative emotions. What is the clinical expression of negative emotions in modern context? It’s anger and hatred. Therefore, once a person harbours anger and hatred towards someone, it means that he is having a negative mindset and is no longer upright.

In fact, a kind and positive person is full of vigour and is hopeful about life. If a person goes, “I hate it so much; I am so angry.” It is impossible for a person with such negative mindset to be someone who understands his mind and sees his true nature.

Would an enlightened person hate others? Human beings inherently possess Buddha-nature. Do you think a person who understands his mind and sees his true nature would have negative emotions?

Dear Buddhist friends,

*How much do you know about the Little House?*

*Master Lu once said, “Repayment of karmic debts through the _Little House_ is ten times more effective than through the physical body”*

The _Little House_, which forms the foundation of Guan Yin Citta practice, comes with immense power and it is one of the Buddhist practices of the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva in this Age of Dharma Decline.

There is a multitude of awe-inspiring testimonies of how the right application of the _Little Houses_ and the other Golden Buddhist practices of Guan Yin Citta help cure the incurables, ascend the deceased to a higher spiritual realm, resolve the seemingly insurmountable interpersonal conflicts and many others.

If you wish to find out more about the intricacies of the _Little Houses_ such as the method to enhance the quality of your _Little Houses_, the protocol of offering the _Little Houses_, and etc, join us on the 2 October session to find out more.

*OUR GREATEST SORROW LIES IN LOSING HOPE FOR THE FUTURE*

Master Jun Hong Lu:

As humans, our greatest sorrows lies in losing hope for the future; our worst habit lies in failing to plan our work. The setbacks of many people can oftentimes be attributed towards how they only dream and take no action.

A person who can only sustain brief periods of enthusiasm often lose while a person who persists, always wins.

The highest spiritual state in Buddhism is when words are not needed and two hearts beat as one; the highest state of mind in accomplishing tasks is when one has no notion of forms and accords with the conditions.

Think about it: will a person be insensible to the help rendered to them? Do not give with an instinct of gaining something back, for as long as we are sincere in helping, others will surely reciprocate.

Dear Buddhist friends,

Karma is just a law of nature, the law of cause and effect. If we plant an apple seed, the tree that grows will bear apples, not mangoes. And once the apple seed is planted, no amount of manipulation, beseeching or complaining will induce the tree to yield a mango.

The only meaningful action that will produce a mango is to plant a mango seed. It is through understanding this law, we can be more truly guided to greater fulfillment in our lives.

If you have ever asked questions like:

❓Who is in control of my destiny?
❓If my intentions influence the quality of the results, does this mean that every action done with good intentions will tend toward a good result?
❓Is it possible to burn off old karma?
❓Is there any ‘secret ingredient’ to having my prayers answered?
