I do not know what could trigger analyst to cover a stock either. I do know of analyst coverage on illiquid stocks, for example, Tai Sin. UOH KH initial coverage early this year, which I think is one or two years late already since TS price has already appreciate substantially. But maybe they have been accumulating long enough and big enough to issue a report to boost up the price further? Just my speculation. But if that is the intention, the volume and price of TS has hardly move since the report.

Valuetronics is another example mentioned by CY09.

It is more important to do own homework first before putting down hard earned money, than to wait for analyst reports.

I agree with your point. In fact, no analyst coverage is a merit point, rather a demerit point for a decision to buy Big Grin
Noticed two different sells here in the last few pages.

one buddy said to sell when its PE reach a certain level, another buddy said wont sell until the fundamental changes.

Which is the "correct" sell for value investors?

btw, I am more from TA, and bought into this counter from last year, but feel comfortable to hold a value counter.

Thanks.

Both are correct.

Sell when it is over-valued, either due to over-priced or deteriorating value.
Thank you so much, CityFarmer.

Sorry but I disagree with this statement. Yes selling due to deteriorating fundamental is correct but not necessary due to over-valued price if you are a FA long term investor. I have made many mistakes in the past just trying to be a smart-ass doing this only to regret it later. Take Sarine for example, by all measures it is definitely over valued but the growth story of this company is still intact and meeting all their growth milestones. In the words(not exact) of one famous fund mgr (Kubric), "I tend to give much leeway to a performing over value stock if the fundamentals is still intact" . I live by this mantra. Only time I would sell some would be to rebalance my portfolio so that I can sleep better.

I am not sure whether you agree Penguin business is cyclical. Its fundamental might be ok but its business might turn bad once the cycle turns. So long term on a cyclical company is a no no for me.

I feel more comfortable on buying than selling, especially on selling of high grower. It is more than an art than science IMO.

What is the best time to sell a fast grower? If Sarine Tech's PE is around 40, that is an obviously over-priced, and a YES to me. How about PE around 30? Well, may be. PE around 20 is an obviously NO. The story will be different on other stock e.g. Penguin

Yes, selling is many times more difficult for me too than buying especially if you have to cut lost on a fundamentally sound stock. All my above comments is on generality and not specific to penguin. Don't know anything about Penguin and didn't bother to look into it as this kind of business besides being cyclical has no moat.
I am very sceptical of analyst rpt, especially those that ask ppl to buy nowadays..
