I will more worry on the old-man friendliness of public transport, than the concessionary rate Big Grin

Yes, i agree, the future old folk concessionary fare is a huge burden to whoever is paying it then. I will not count on it anyway.

Really?? Must everything be politicised when it comes to SMRT and/or TLC?? Angry

None of the newly announced lines run through Punggol East (which is in Sengkang btw) so what has the news got to do with the by-election??

And before everyone get excited and carried away, there is a small unspoken caveat which should not be taken for granted. Will the PAP still be in power in 2030? And if not, will this grand 2030 plan changed if we have a change in govt??

After all, if WP does come into power one day, it is their stated intentions to nationalise the transport system. With nationalisation, will the rail network be expanded so aggressively is still a matter of conjecture. Your guess is as good as mine.
You can't say there is no co-incidence with the smrt extension and 2-3 days before announcement of nomination date, in any case the new gen not so easy to smoke lah they can try this or try that people are not so easily swayed anymore like before and they also recognize that is good to have balance sharing of power so that politicians don't anyhow do things that will conflict your interest.

The only good thing about PAP is that they have these old ministers who have built rapport with leaders in other countries over the decades but you noticed after the last election all those ministers have "suddenly made to step down" like as though a storm had blown thru and house cleaning had taken place Tongue

And if one day these people go what then is the advantage of PAP? You talk about running a country it is not the politicians who are doing it. It is the civil service behind that are doing it.
This is expected. The expenses are not one-time, but will sustain if not increase

SMRT net profit drops 31.2% as high expenses bite

SINGAPORE — SMRT’s net profit fell 31.2 per cent on year in the third quarter to S$25.5 million, hit by a combination of higher operating expenses and significantly higher bus losses.

Operating expenses rose 12.7 per cent to S$256.7 million mainly due to higher staff, depreciation, and repair and maintenance costs.

interesting to note that they are appealing to the LTA for a grant for the signalling works upgrade - works that should have commenced in 1997 (at half the cost).
There is a good reason to avoid company with regulated business like SMRT Tongue

SMRT likely to cut dividend further: DBS Vickers

With SMRT's (S53.SG) earnings expected to deteriorate, a further dividend cut is likely, DBS Vickers says; it projects FY13's dividend at 5.5 cents/share, down from FY12's 7.45 cents.

"We expect cost challenges to result in a lackluster growth outlook coupled with above average valuations." The house cuts its target to $1.30 from $1.50 after weak fiscal-3Q13 results spur it to cut its FY13-14 earnings forecasts by 16%-25% to factor in further cost increases, particularly for staff and maintenance.

I wonder what is the financial penalty for fire. Or does MOT only penalise disruption of train services?

Imho, fire is more serious because there is additional risk of loss of life.

The heavy rain over the past few days had increase the dampness of the soil. Perhaps additional checks on cable insulation is timely.
will mot or ptc penalise? i think is more of the latter
