LOL! Not angry. Just want to point out that before you say others make sweeping statements, then you should refrain from making exaggerations in your own post.

Have a great weekend. Smile

I don't interpret Hri Kumar's proposal as paying money in exchange for not doing NS. Currently, PRs, foreigners and new citizens are already not doing NS. Native Singaporeans have been clamoring for male PRs and new citizens to contribute their fair share of sacrifice to Singapore by doing NS to deserve similar privileges. However, some of the new citizens/PRs are too old to go through NS. Can you imagine someone in their late 30s or 40s do BMT (Basic military training)or even SOC (Standard Obstacle course)? Since they can't do NS, then a more convenient alternative is to get them to pay money to compensate the Singaporean natives for their NS sacrifice.

Instead of viewing it as paying money to avoid NS, I interpret it as making the system fairer by spreading the sacrifice across all stakeholders and not just let native Singaporeans carry the burden alone while the rest free-ride. In fact, native Singaporeans even get discriminated in the job market by employers who hate us for disappearing year in year out for our reservist duties. Isn't it unfair to be discriminated because of our service to the nation while the rest who benefit from our sacrifice actually gain an edge over us in the job market?
Let's see how many Singaporeans will turn out at 4 P. M. at HONG LIM Park, tomorrow. If the turn out is "poor", then i think Singaporeans have no hope already. Come 2015 or 2016 it will still be belonging to PAPYS for them to rubber stamp in Parliament (read to screw Singaporeans further).
Papys may not lose 2/3 majority to carry on their rubber stamping company which they have enjoyed rubber stamping for > 50 years already. If Singaporeans dare not change and vote for the other parties, then we are finished as a people. We have lost our country to foreigners. As simple as that. i think the man-in-the-street should understand also.
The turn out tomorrow will tell me whether Singapore still has hope or none.
I think the gov't shld sell or give each male ns man a free or at cost price hdb flat. They are after all 99 leasehold pigeon holes owned by the govt. What is so diidicult about doing this?
Tomolo 4pm speakers are decent and good one.
Nicole, TKL, TJS and Gilbert, hope CSJ keep his mouth shut.

Main purpose is to show the outside world the unhappiness of citizen against FT.
But I doubt papies concern or duly worried.
Hit them where it hurt and an ambush will be better in 2016.

A good turnout will awake them and made them change.
I rather they dun and still push us and force feed us....a

Someone already said, worst case scenario, army will take control. So why bother to worry.

Seriously, I strongly agree.

We must learn to accept differences in viewpoints and acknowledge that differences do exist in different social strata level.

Why are we in such a current state has one of the main culprit being the political and financial elites are not listening and acknowledging such problems exist.

I hope we can keep this thread in a comfortable state. Why I kept emphaising the fear of social division is because it is already happening. Social mobility is becoming social darwinism, whereby the evolution is causing further widening in economic status.

The bottom 20% Singaporean households in the "Key Indicator of Household Expenditure Survey" in 2007 was $1274. The latest Survey is currently being conducted and results should be finalised by end of this year.
http://www.singstat.gov.sg/pubn/hhld/hes2007.pdf
(See page 22)

Does anyone like to comprehend how a household can support itself with $1274? Even taking into account of another additional of 50% increment due to increase in GDP per cap plus all the subsidies available, what are we looking at? The children of these households will forever be trapped in a viscious cycle, as they will be highly disadvantaged in education and therefore their career path.

The upper middle class and elite class would simply be climbing themselves every higher with increasing number of assets and therefore making their children richer. Thus this is the reason for the widening of the Gini coefficient.

I will express this even simpler across for those who believe a picture shows a thousand words.

I dont agree to your statement. I am one who is not attending tomo rally. That does not mean i agree and support govt policies. I see no point in attending the rally as it cannot change anything.

If every Singaporean thinks this way, then we are really finished. We should at least show our displeasure. How can we expect papies to take us seriously if we don't even bother to show how we feel about it.

The govt knows many are unhappy via forums, feedback etc. They have tone down and say well, 6.9mil is the worst case. I am a practical person. I wont waste time to do something which cant change anything. I will do something only during the next election.
