My gripe is not rates, but quality. The 3G is faster in Combodia Siem Reap and 2.75G Edge in Malaysia is faster than 3G in Singapore. That's my personal experience.

Technology is the same across country, with similar specification. The reception quality will give different user experience.

So the hearsay busted...Big Grin

Would be interesting to find out how is "average effective price" calculated.

What applications were you testing with?

This is actually not true though the software protocol of GPRS or WCDMA is the same. It depends on the repeater and base station and how they configure the transmission which some countries use fixed line backbone to transport. 3G has the added problem of not able to penetrate buildings so more infrastructure is needed.

Another possible reason is density as each base station only support certain no of nodes, However it explains Siem Reap but probably not Malaysia.

I'm a tech guy and hopefully I am unbiased, but the difference is noticeably significant

Simple web browsing with iphone will suffice. U guys can try using 2G ie 2.75G EDGE in Malaysia (U will see a E rather than a circle) and see if it is faster than 3G in Singapore.

M1 jumps 3% on Q2 results

Shares in telecommunications firm M1 gained nearly 3% in a weaker broader market, helping kick off Singapore’s results season with an inspiring quarterly performance.

M1’s net profit rose about 11% to $39.2 million in the second quarter ended June 30 and the company said it expects moderate growth in net profit for the full year.

Analysts highlighted a strong business performance. “The surging take-up of tiered data plans is starting to show, with service revenue growth soaring to a 10-year high of 8% year-on-year while EBITDA margin is fairly resilient,” brokerage CIMB said in a report.
