industrialized farming need skilled labor, not just any farmer, I believe. plus, industrial farming currently is in Tianjin & Shanghai, so the labor cost is higher in the base.
US$2K/month is not that high, if you are hiring college graduates for industrialized farming.

if harvesting is done manually, probably, they would hire contracted workers just for harvest. those contract workers might not be counted as employee.
The same could be true for other labor intensive work.

It does make more sense for a RMB2,000 monthly salary - this translate to around US$315. I am comfortable at a US$300 to US$600 range.
So it's either the cost savings or the workers estimation is too optimistic.

I know nothing on industrialized farming skilled labor salary, but let me provide info on the skill high-tech worker in 1st tier city e.g. Beijing
Several years ago, the chief engineer in MNC in Beijing was around US$6000, engineers (graduate and post-graduate degree from good university) salary were around US$1000-$1500
They are the "high-income" group base on China national income statistic. So i assume US$2k/month is a bit too high even for graduate/post-graduate major in agriculture.

from what I understand, a good university graduate can easily earn USD2k in any of the major cities as engineer, not fresh though.
Nowadays, in China, there are so many universities. not-so-good university graduates are just equivalent of high-school graduates from last time or even worse.
college education in China is a typical case of quantity over quality.
For City like shanghai, Engineer pay is higher than average taiwan engineer is drawing in taipei.
City Farmer input is something i can align to. To add, if they have experience in MNC experience, PRC engineer or Engr PM may even command higher salary than singaporean. There are shortage of good engineer over there currently.

Let me add-on base on real recruitment experience in China, but it is limited to my experience.
Shanghai engineer (local or graduate from local good university) demand higher salary, due to their international exposure. 5-10 years relevant engineering experience, will able to demand 15k-30k RMB / month salary, translated to 2.5k-5k US$ / month
There are engineers with higher salary due to niche market. Last experience, FAE manager with cross-region and multicultural exposure in MNC draws millions RMB annual package in Shenzhen.
