Mixed response to Netflix’s Singapore debut

SINGAPORE – On-demand Internet television service Netflix made its highly anticipated debut here today (Jan 7), with a basic package priced at S$10.98 per month. However, the response from television buffs, including those who already access the United States version of the service through VPN (virtual private network) providers, appeared to be mixed.

Well, I guess that means cutting some headcount then.....good for those old staff all the way from Cyberway (if any left)
StarHub is doing well, with improving cooperation with GLCs, and government agencies. In the old days, the logical choice was SingTel...

SPH, StarHub ink deal for cross-media, marketing tie-ups

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and StarHub have signed a memorandum of understanding to take advantage of opportunities in the converged media space.

The partnership - the first between a media organisation and a telco here - will span areas such as advertising sales, cross-media content creation and publishing, data analytics and marketing.

For instance, consumers can expect bundled newspaper and mobile data subscription deals in the months to come. Details are still being worked out.

Both organisations will also jointly develop local content to be published across their print, online, mobile and TV platforms.

New measures to better protect pay-TV customers from April

Under the new rules, MDA will require pay-TV operators to allow consumers to exit fixed-term contracts without paying Early Termination Charges (ETCs) if unilateral changes by the operators are detrimental to subscribers due to either:

Increase in subscription fee
Removal of material channel(s)
Removal of material sports content within a channel
Removal of at least 20 per cent of total number of channels in entire pay-TV service since the point of subscription

StarHub takes 9% stake in film production firm mm2 Asia

SINGAPORE (March 22): StarHub has acquired a 9.05% stake in film and TV content producer mm2 Asia for $18.04 million.

StarHub's partnership with mm2 Asia goes back to 2012. The telco has made investments in the Ah Boys To Men and Lion Men movie series, both of which were co-produced by mm2 Asia.

I have to admit that SH has done the right things to defend its pay-TV biz, but can it go against the macro trend?

StarHub to broadcast Singapore Sevens

Rugby fans received a boost yesterday after it was announced that StarHub will be the official broadcaster of the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens.

The four-year partnership will see the local telco broadcasting the April 16-17 event 'live' on Singapore's only free sports channel, SuperSports Arena.
