1) RafflesEdu&Midas 30k=> 200k
2) Yoma 200k => 500k
3) Vibrant&Penguin 500k => 900k
btw, i lost 100-200k on junk counter such as acma etc
so in the end only left abt 800k

Raffles Education IPO was in 2002. Midas IPO was in 2004. So the earliest this investment snowball could have started would be 2002.

However, in 2001 the Singapore government had already implemented a 35% limit on CPF investments in shares using the Ordinary Account. The Special Account could not (and still cannot) be used to invest in shares.

This means that even if $30k did turn into $200k, when the shares were sold, that $200k went back into OA, and only 35% of this new OA amount i.e. $70k (plus 35% of fresh CPF contributions) would be available for reinvestment.

For fresh CPF contributions, the salary limit prior to Sep 2011 was $4,500, then it was $5,000 until 2016. Maximum annual contribution including bonus is 17 months * 37% * salary limit. Let's assume the limit was $5,000 from the start date of Jan 2002, the error is only about 10%.

From Jan 2002 to Dec 2015, assuming a salary limit of $5,000, the maximum contribution would be:

17 mths * 14 years * $5,000 * 37% (contribution to CPF) = $440,300.

However at most 23% of the 37% goes to OA (age below 35), so maximum going into OA would be $273,700. Of this, at most 35% is usable for CPF investment into shares i.e. $95,795. Interest paid on CPF is not counted but it is not material for this analysis.

Based on the analysis above, the 3-step snowball given above could not have been achieved with CPF money, whether from the original $30k alone or with help from subsequent CPF contributions.

1) RafflesEdu&Midas 30k=> 200k
cpf oa = 300k at this pt

2) Yoma 200k => 500k
cpf oa ard $600+k

3) Vibrant&Penguin 500k => 900k
35% of 600k = 200k
200k->600k
cpf oa ard 900k

did not bother to monitor cpf contrib from salary.
nd to hv gd picks n a series of gd run.
picking consecutive multibagger n buy big.

I think can la but u got to be very lucky in all the buying and selling. sometimes miracle just happen. if u hold all the above stocks till now then it's impossible to make these gains.

I choose to give you the benefit of the doubt funman. anyway no point bluffing cos you not promoting anything. there is no motive in your statement.

We should stop feeding the trolls now.

Interesting that 1 person presents the evidence without an "accusation", while the other heartily presents the "accusation" without original evidence.

When evidence was presented in another thread, it die out by itself. I would appreciate that the data speaks for itself, rather than use the "troll" word on 2 separate occasions without any original substantiation of evidence.  A first is ok and a healthy reminder was sent out.

This 2nd occasion is not acceptable as moderator's 1st reminder seems to be ignored. Based on your seniority in this forum, this is the last verbal warning.

Do they have statement of transactions of some kind of such ? It will be easy to de-proof accusation.

@Weijian evidence of someone trolling can only be seen via their posts, so as u can see it is quite hard to prove if not impossible. But that does not mean it should be allowed.

Imho it is very obvious someone with million dollars wealth and such high income will not be flaunting it online. On top of that , asking on an internet forum , much more one on value investing, advice on how to managed that wealth by trad8ng? Got to be joking rite???

I am sure most vB here are experienced enough to read the thread with he@lthy level of skepticism., But what about the unwary.?

Lastly, imho this thread would probably fit better under personal finance but for some reason is posted in others.

Good that we are seeing some progress here.

Are you saying that Funman168 does not have at least 900k in his CPF O/A in the first place?

{This statement is kind of different from what d.o.g. is saying, i.e. that his trading figures don't add up to 900k.}

Allow me to quip in my 2 cents. I think quite simply.. The question posed whether theoretically or factually has been well answered by buddies and the thread has outlived its usefulness.

Perhaps this thread can be closed as such. No point to focus further when forummers can look at other informative topics.

Hope other forummers and moderator consider on this point of view.

Approaching from another “extreme” angle:

Assuming it is not a “real case scenario” but rather a “hypothetical scenario”, so what?

For the purpose of learning and discussion, does it matter?

I think Post # 3 and # 79 from D.O.G were excellent.

Would be interesting to know how to get past the 35% limit after stock gains... is it possible by offsetting the trades?
