Its function is more of a toy, than a helper. An alternative over a live pet? A price-tag of S$2K, isn't too expansive for the interesting gadget...

Softbank's childlike robot with 'heart' set to go on sale

URAYASU (Japan) — Technology company Softbank’s Pepper robot is going on sale in Japan on Saturday (June 20), equipped with a “heart” designed to not only recognise human emotions but react with simulations of anger, joy and irritation.

Details of when and where it will go on sale outside Japan were still undecided, but Mr Son said the first overseas sales will likely happen next year, with experimental sales likely happening later this year. It sells for ¥198,000 (S$2,150) in Japan.

Yes, I will very likely get one for my girl, if the price-tag is around the same. I wonder any language support beyond Japanese...Big Grin

Reminds me of the time in the 80s when robot toys were popular after the release of the movie "Batteries Not Included" in 1987.
My parents even bought some for me. Of course those toys only have a motor without any computer on board.

This softbank robot is suited for the old Japanese folks without children, or children who don't visit.
