*RECITE MORE OF _EIGHTY-EIGHT BUDDHAS GREAT REPENTANCE (LIFO)_ WHEN KARMIC OBSTACLES ARE TOO SUBSTANTIAL*

Recite more of _LIFO_ when your karmic obstacles are too substantial. It is only through seeking forgiveness from numerous Bodhisattvas, that you are able to be truly forgiven.

The fact of the matter is, it is not about the forgiveness that you receive from Bodhisattvas but it is you, who have become more compassionate, remorseful, insightful and have gained wisdom; it is at this instance that you are able to see through the reality of things and dissolve lots of hardships!

Why did Bodhisattva say, “to overcome all ills and sufferings”? By “overcome”, it means to resolve. We have to prevail over all our sufferings. After all, the reason for us to be in this human realm is to undergo sufferings. Hence, we should bite the bullet and make our way through it.

*WE WILL RECEIVE ENORMOUS MERITORIOUS BLESSINGS, IF WE REPENT AND USE OUR MISTAKE AS NEGATIVE EXAMPLE TO EDUCATE OTHERS*

Caller: If we repent of our wrongdoing, and use the case as a lesson for others, will the meritorious blessings be enormous?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s for sure. The fact that you use the case as a lesson for others, and as a result, they have benefited from it, gained wisdom, and embarked on the path of cultivation, it goes without saying that your meritorious blessings will be boundless.

*LEARNING BUDDHISM WHOLEHEARTEDLY, DILIGENTLY AND GENUINELY*

Master Jun Hong Lu: A lot of people learn Buddhism throughout their lifetime. However, they do not know what actually are they practising in the end. They are just putting on an act as a Buddhist practitioner to gain the respect of others. They are simply trying to fish for compliments and this is sheer self-deception. I hope that all of you learn Buddhism wholeheartedly, diligently and genuinely. Very genuinely. One must be genuine when it comes to Buddhism learning so as to achieve the desired state.

*WHAT IS CONSIDERED DILIGENT PRACTICE*

Caller: Master, in the age of dharma decline, the occurrences of karmic retribution are ripening at a fast rate. Should we give highest priority to reciting Little Houses to ensure to ensure we stay healthy both physically and spiritually?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Putting in extra effort in practicing Buddhism and spiritual development is diligence in true sense of the word. In this age of Dharma decline, you will not be able to accomplish anything if you do not possess this quality. (Guan Yin Bodhisattva has told us “to be more diligent in 2016”, could you enlighten us what is considered to be truly diligent?) Being diligent means not wasting a single minute. For example, you spent every minute of this call asking questions concerning the well-being of other sentient beings, you will gain merits as all the questions enquired by you are recorded and broadcasted over the radio for listeners all over the world. You were accumulating virtuous merits. After hanging up the phone, you continue to introduce Buddhism to others and help them awaken spiritually. You perform recitation non-stop while doing household chores like washing, cooking and marketing you are being diligent! You speak Buddhist words of wisdom when you are at work and talking to people. You nurture the mind of the Bodhisattva and observe good conduct, isn’t that called diligence? (you mean doing nothing but good deeds all the time) Yes, Indeed. Do not commit any bad deed. Good people must do good deeds.

*A PERSON WHO NEITHER PRACTICES CULTIVATION OF MIND AND CONDUCT NOR PERFORMS VIRTUOUS DEEDS, SHALL LEAD HIS LIFE DESTINED BY HIS FATE*

Caller: Master, if a person neither practices cultivation of mind and conduct nor performs any virtuous deeds, does it mean that he will lead a predestined life?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s right. He will have to take what fate serves him. For example, if you are fated to die at the age of 33 and even though you are not aware of what cultivation is all about, you have been consistently performing virtuous deeds. When you encounter the karmic obstacle at the age of 33, you may be able to escape death, but end up being disabled.

On the contrary, if you are fated to be doing fine at the age of 33 but you have been doing numerous bad deeds, when you encounter a karmic obstacle, you might not be able to survive the obstacle and you meet your fate.
As such, it is highly dangerous to just leave life to fate, because you have absolutely no control over what is going to happen to you. As for us, being Buddhist practitioners, at least we are able to have control over our bad fate and destiny. That is why leaving life to fate is dangerous.

Caller: Yes. There is a fellow practitioner who repeatedly dreamed about a traffic accident on the day before and on the day after his birthday. He then started to prepare himself by performing daily recitation of additional Little Houses and scriptures. Three days later, his car skidded on’ black ice’ (a thin coating of glaze on the road surface) and crashed into the roadside. He escaped unscathed. The impending karmic calamity was averted just like that.

Master Jun Hong Lu: You see? If you do not practise Buddhism and just let fate dictate you, you will end up meeting your fate in a traffic accident, just like how it appeared in your dream.

【如何正确面对修行中的压力】

(中英版,Chinese & English versions)

HOW TO OVERCOME STRESS ASSOCIATED WITH CULTIVATION

Caller: A friend of mine in my neighbourhood used to be a fellow practitioner but had given up in the end. According to her, though she had benefited a lot from the practice, she felt that doing daily recitation and Little Houses had taken up too much of her time. On top of that, she still had to take care of her children. As such, she felt very stressed out. I asked her if she had experienced positive changes in her life brought about by the practice and she was quite certain she did. What advice shall I offer her?

Master Jun Hong Lu: It’s very simple. Do the monks get stressed out by performing recitations day in and day out? No pain, no gain. A person who refuses to study hard will end up learning nothing and working in low-skilled jobs. Without diligent cultivation, how are you going to succeed? How can she possibly change her life if she thinks that doing a little chanting gives rise to pressure? It would be too late when she starts regretting on her deathbed one day, praying to the Bodhisattva that she would recite scriptures. There’s nothing I can say about your friend. It can be attributed to lack of conditions, her laziness and weakness.

Caller: Understood.

*REQUESTING BODHISATTVA FOR BLESSINGS*

Caller: A fellow practitioner asked if we can pray for blessings in the following way: Bodhisattva, please bless me with supreme realisation, infinite brightness, immeasurable wisdom and boundless positive energies. Would such prayers use up lots of our own karmic merits?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Remember, it’s no use talking. What’s the use of rhetoric when you lack energy? The prayer won’t be effective unless you have enough energy in you. Your body must have the ‘energy’ to allow your prayers to be answered.

Caller: A fellow practitioner wishes to ask if we can pray for a peaceful mind before reciting Little House in order to achieve a better quality in the recitation?

Master Jun Hong Lu: You can pray any way as you see fit but what matters most is that you must have the ‘energy’ to put your words into actions.

Caller: If we have adequate ‘energy’, do we need a lot of merits for our prayers to be answered?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Of course.

Caller: Then, it will be better not to pray for it, we might as well keep the merits.

Master Jun Hong Lu: That is right. If you do not have sufficient merits and virtues to start with, such prayers would deplete them further.

Caller: Thank you for answering my question, Master.

*CHERISH EVERY MOMENT OF OUR LIVES*

Life is like a journey on a one-way train, we must live every moment of our lives well.  Each and every person who boards and alights from the train has predestined affinity with us, thus we should treasure them.  We must learn to tap on our kind innate nature, to be worthy of our conscience.  To cherish every affinity that accompanies us through each and every part of our lives.  Persevere to overcome vexations so that we can be persistent in our cultivation in order to acquire a blissful heart that Is free from sufferings, just like that of a Buddha.
