Very convenient indeed.
From the wiki on parliamentary priviledge in sg:

MPs are not liable to the following:

Any civil or criminal proceedings, arrest, imprisonment or damages because of any matter or thing which he or she may have brought before Parliament or a committee by petition, bill, resolution, motion or otherwise, or may have said in Parliament or in committee.[266]

So, parliamentary priviledge is not equalling to absolute free speech. Given PAPs track record of suing, I humbly beg to differ.

I do agree that WP could have done better.
However, the fact is that many Singaporeans are politically inactive, and our opposition parties are very small. Economies of scale plays a big part.

Eh... wiki is not exactly a good source of reference.

Freedom of speech and debate and proceedings
5. There shall be freedom of speech and debate and proceedings in Parliament, and such freedom of speech and debate and proceedings shall not be liable to be impeached or questioned in any court, commission of inquiry, committee of inquiry, tribunal or any other place whatsoever out of Parliament.

But hor, I think we have strayed away from the thread topic Sad

Yeokiwi, I referenced wiki but it did reference back to the ppip.

Please see section 6 that states exception to section 5.

No person shall be liable to any civil or criminal proceedings

Yes.. libel is civil proceeding isn't it?

Besides that,

Subject to the provisions of this Act, upon any inquiry touching the privileges, immunities and powers of Parliament or of the Speaker or of any Member or committee, any copy of the Journals of the Commons House of Parliament of the United Kingdom, or of any record or official report of the proceedings or debates thereof or of any committee thereof, which has been printed or purports to have been printed by the order or by the printer of the Commons House aforesaid, shall be admitted as evidence in all courts and places without proof of its being such copy or that such copy was so printed.

I suppose you have seen how UK parliament works..

It is plain excuse to say one needs absolute freedom of speech to answer those questions posed. If they have the answers for residents, I cannot imagine what these answers are that will get the WP MPs sued. Perhaps I should go to their MPS to ask these questions...

How is WP going to do this? Go door to door and whisper to residents? If not, what can be a better platform than free reporting from Parliament to reach out to all residents (me included)?

Mr Pritam Singh probably forgotten his oath Tongue

3. Oath as Member of Parliament.
I, ............................................. , having been elected as a Member of the Parliament of Singapore, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully discharge my duties as such to the best of my ability, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of Singapore, and that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore.

Next time must think then say...hehe..

That was indeed dumb. I wonder why he bothered to go parliament in the first place. But then again incentives and upgrades from national ministries seemed to apply to PAP wards and not opposition wards even when when we are all Singaporeans.

Reminds me of a minister who when questioned on live TV why he deserve $1m salary when SIP messed up, he answered for that you have to ask his boss the PM

You have one of these jokers every now and then

If we recall the entire saga, it all happened when PAP basically unplugged their software infrastructure without a proper handling over. I'm not even sure how that works when a proper handling over is not done. We can understand the initial struggle to reconcile the figures when the backbone was taken away, but after FOUR long years it does reflect badly on WP

Were PAP town councils overpaying their managing agents by up to 100%?

Is there any different in nature between WP town council issue, and the recent lapses in public sector? I saw related party transactions, and approval process lapses.

May be the only difference, is the amount of fund involved, and also no financial losses incurred by public sector lapses...Huh

Auditor-General flags lapses in public sector

THE Auditor-General's Office (AGO) in Singapore has completed its annual audit of the country's public sector, uncovering another slew of irregularities and lapses in various ministries and statutory boards.

In his 72-page report, Auditor-General Willie Tan singled out four areas which public sector entities could pay greater attention to and make improvements in. These include the way grants are administered, the tendering and management of revenue contracts, the management of contract variations, and related party transactions.

He also expressed "concern" over the lack of documentation on decisions, actions taken and matters with significant financial implications in the areas audited.
