Thai PM to dissolve parliament, call elections
BANGKOK — Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today (Dec 9) she will dissolve parliament and hold an election “as soon as possible”, following a wave of anti-government protests in Bangkok.
“At this stage, when there are many people opposed to the government from many groups, the best way is to give back the power to the Thai people and hold an election. So the Thai people will decide,” Ms Yingluck said in a televised address.
She added that she will request a royal decree to dissolve Parliament.

Yes, anyway Pheu Thai was the legit winner for the 2011 election.
In fact, the opposition has to worry if they have to go into the elections. That was why Suthep called for the "People's Council" and for a monarch-appointed Prime Minister. You never see them mention about "re-election".

Basically this time round is not the red shirt, the yellow - elites+royals don't want amnesty for thaksin to come back. Yingluck is thaksin last card I think he's run out of people to help him. So dissolving parliament is being one step ahead of the army from taking possible action like having another coup. If a coup happens and yingluck has to flee it's gg for thaksin.
so this buys some time but without long term military backing is also no use, I'm sure thaksin has secret military supporters waiting in the wings to appear when the king no longer around.

Anyway, "people's council" is not going to work. Give it a few more months and it will be the red shirt calling for a new government.

when the old king is not around, the new king is Thaksin best buddy. Thats why elite and aristocrats are scared of Thaksin.

Until another strongman the likes of Thaksin emerge, I believe we will continue to see turmoil in Thailand's politics for sometime to come. The same happened to Indonesia. There was a period of instability post Suharto era, until Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Exactly... Like what YL says, if Thai people can be united then there will be many things to share.
Unfortunately, opposition don't buy her idea.
