China’s FDI grows at fastest pace in two years

BEIJING — Investment inflows into China rose 24.1 per cent on-year to US$9.4 billion (S$12 billion) last month, the Commerce Ministry said, suggesting foreign firms’ confidence in the world’s second-largest economy is holding up, despite slowing growth and fears of increased regulatory scrutiny following investigations into alleged price-fixing by foreign firms selling milk formula and pharmaceuticals.

July’s foreign direct investment (FDI) figure was up from the 20.1 per cent pace in June, the fastest in more than two years, although the amount was lower than June’s US$14.4 billion.

This took China’s FDI for the first seven months of the year to US$71.4 billion, an increase of 7.1 per cent from the same period last year.
