Pullback not a unanimous decision, Fed minutes show

NEW YORK — Minutes from the United States Federal Reserve’s June policy meeting released yesterday showed many officials wanted more reassurance that the labour market was improving before reining in stimulus measures.

Even so, consensus built within the Fed that there likely was the need to begin pulling back soon on its monthly bond buying.

Financial markets have largely converged on September as the probable start of a reduction in the pace of the central bank’s US$85 billion (S$108 billion) in monthly bond purchases, but the minutes suggested that might not be a sure bet
