While it is not easy to profit with Chairman Ow, but there is always plenty he can teach an ignorant person like me. Chinese EVs have created big havoc in our region and it is only at 50% production capacity! It is probably because US/EU have set the the necessary barriers to insulate their own automotive players. The pain for Jap/Euro brands (and Thailand as an automotive mfg hub) is going to prolong and may get worst as Chinese players start to build up local content in this region (ASEAN)

On another note, the YZJFH demerger into finance and maritime separately listed entities may actually mean that the latter is going to be something similar to SSC on the local bourse. Smile

Minutes of the 37th Annual General Meeting (“AGM” or Meeting”)

With the global automotive fleet steadily transitioning toward electric vehicles (“EVs”), does management foresee this shift supporting sustained demand in the car carrier sector in the coming years? Could you please share your perspective on how this transition is expected to impact the overall car carrier industry?

This is a complex question with multiple factors at play. China currently has more than 125 cars brands but is operating at only about 50% of its production capacity. Despite this underutilization, China continues to meet global demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and, with its extensive manufacturing scale and shipbuilding infrastructure, is well-positioned to significantly influence global EV supply and exports.

In contrast, Japanese automakers may face increasing challenges over time, particularly regarding cost and efficiency. However, in markets like the U.S., the transition to EVs has been relatively slow, presenting a window of opportunity for Japanese manufacturers who maintain strong capabilities in hybrid and EV technologies.

In summary, as EV production scales up globally, demand for ship chartering and car carrier services is expected to strengthen accordingly.
