Peace “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.”

Faith. Joy. Peace. Finally, verse 27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
In the last hours of his life Jesus is helping you become a fearless and peaceful person. The peace he has in mind may include the final peace of all things in the new heaven and the new earth. But that is not what he is focusing on. We know that because he says, “Let not your heart be troubled. Neither let it be afraid.” He has in view your heart, and the peace of your heart, and the fearlessness of your heart, and the untroubled waters of your heart. He wants his people now, to be free from anxiety.
Not the "Peace" of Good Circumstances
And he knows that the only kind of heart-peace the world can give is peace of mind based on good circumstances. If the world can take away our troubles — through health insurance, or retirement accounts, or flood protection, or bomb shelters, or labor-saving devices — then the world can give some peace of mind.
But Jesus says (middle of verse 27), “Not as the world gives do I give to you.” Which means that his peace is not based on good circumstances. It is given, and it holds sway, in spite of bad circumstances. Here is how Jesus says it in John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart in that tribulation; I have overcome the world.”
His Peace, Not Ours
In other words, our peace will make no sense to the world. That is why Paul calls in Philippians 4:7, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.” Human understanding cannot produce it, or grasp it. Why not?
The ultimate reason is that it is not human peace. It is God’s peace. The peace between Jesus and his Father. Verse 27a: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” My peace. I am not creating your peace. I am sharing with you my peace. I am bringing you into my peace.
Your peace, Jesus? They are about to kill you. What kind of peace is that? Perfect peace — with my Father. Tomorrow I will go to the cross, and there I will open the door for my sheep to enter my peace with my Father. I will satisfy his justice, and I will purchase your forgiveness, and I will provide your righteousness. And I will bring you into the very peace that I enjoy with my Father.
And nothing — and nobody — will be able to take it from you. “My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Therefore, let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).
Receive my faith that I have in my Father’s sovereignty over Satan. Receive my joy that I have in my Father’s greatness. And receive my peace that I have with my Father’s favor.
Faith. Joy. Peace. His and yours. We have an amazing Savior. And a great salvation.
Shalom.
NB:
How i wish i can always have “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.” And when you have it you just know, no explanation needed. You just know.

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." The peace that comes from being in a right relationship with God so that we can be anxious for nothing but cast all our cares on Him is not a peace of this world. Rather, it comes only from God through Christ. Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you..." (Jn. 14:27). This peace surpasses understanding. Like the love of Christ, it "passes knowledge" (Eph. 3:19). This does not mean that we cannot understand it period, that it is something better felt than told. In fact, Paul says that we may "know the love of Christ which passes knowledge". Likewise, this peace surpasses mere human understanding and knowledge, and can be known only by those who have the understanding and knowledge of Christ. And this peace will guard or keep our minds. God wants to keep His people safe in His peace. "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isa. 26:3). Yet, a condition is stated. For God to keep us in perfect peace, our minds must be stayed on Him. The peace of God will keep our hearts only as we keep ourselves in His perfect peace by striving to maintain a right relationship with Him based on His word. Edward H. Bickersteth wrote, "Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin? The blood of Jesus whispers peace within." Indeed, one of the reasons that Jesus came was to make peace (Eph. 2:13-18).

Are you looking for peace in your soul? When we follow Paul's prescription, "Be anxious in nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God," we can have the result--"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Dear Friend in the Lord,

“Staying Awake” – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus urges us to live a vigilant
Christ-like life. It is very easy to slip into a life of “debauchery and drunkenness.”
This will lead us into a darkness of self-centredness and confusion. Live daily in the consciousness of Jesus’ constant presence in your heart and home.

I am blessed to have friends who are willing to share their joys with me - just as long it's not proselytising; I listen.

My own belief is proselytising is indeed the very wrong or bad way of sharing your faith. You may label some of them as zealots.
For me, if i share any experiences of life with someone, i logically think he may not feel the same as me because "No one reacts to things as they are but to one's own mental images". Even if he has gone through the same experiences as i have gone through. Why? Simply we all have different "mental images"
Relax my friend. i dislike very much people who over do it - Zealots proselytising. i try to get as far away as possible, myself.
And yes as CHRISTIANS, not only we all have to bear our own cross in our daily living but also lend a hand to the "weaker ones". Anyway i always remember, "It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive".
Shalom.

As i posted
[Image: peace-of-god-heart-550x320.jpg] because one of my relatives has just being diagnosed with 4th-stage colon cancer spreading to the lungs and liver. The strange thing is he looks normal and healthy now.
So what do you think he needed most at this stage of his life? The Peace of the World or The Peace of GOD? - No matter what is the outcome of his cancer treatment, right?
Amen.

My regards to your relative, temperament.

All of us, irregardless of our beliefs or faiths,
who struts and frets our hour upon the stage,
are mere actors who are full of sound and fury,
but when the curtain falls, we are heard no more.

You are a good man. Thanks for reaching out.

So sorry to hear that. It is when one feels helpless that one becomes closer to God. I hope his last days are spent in peace.

Thank you very much for your regards.

Yes! His last days may be weeks or months or years. Only God knows. Look at the case of OTC (President) & LHL (Pinky Loong). So in a way it is the same for us "normal" & healthy now, so what? None of us really knows how and when and where.
If you really have the Peace of God, you will never fear death. You can feel HIS PRESENCE. You are set "Free of the things of this World". Yet living in this world, i have to manage whatever His Grace has bestowed on me. Nevertheless i wish i always have the PEACE Of GOD.
Hope you are not offended with my thinking or sharing or experiences.
Shalom.

"Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash..." (abstracted from Philippians 3:7-9)

Sorry, not relevant to the discussion here but I'd like to share how I got into this believing of the Bible and everything else started looking a bit ridiculous—especially the things we can think of or do to make money—("strangely dim" I think are some "professional" Christian words in describing this type of phenomena) although it has not stopped me from trying to make money. The theology of "dog dung" also informs, meaning to say it becomes part of life and for me the outcome of all investments is best left to God.
