Watch out, Apple’s next big thing will be wearable

CUPERTINO — Apple is testing designs for a smart wristwatch that would link wirelessly to the iPhone and allow wearers to easily access some of the features of the smartphone, according to reports.

The device could use Willow Glass, a new type of flexible glass that would allow the watch to have a curved touchscreeen, The New York Times said, citing “sources familiar with the company’s explorations”.

I was amazed how desperate a investor can be, trying to find ways squeeze money out from a company if he can't get the money out of the stock price.

Launching a lawsuit against a company which has war chest of 140b cold cash? He must be very brave, but at least he earns the publicity.

Apple CEO hints of ‘new’ iPhone format

SAN FRANCISCO — Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook hinted that the company could build a cheaper mobile phone that would “not necessarily (be) a cheaper version of the current iPhone”, and called a shareholder lawsuit over the company’s giant cash pile a “silly sideshow” at the Goldman Sachs conference today.

With pressure from pundits mounting on Apple to produce a phone with a 5-inch screen, like Samsung’s Galaxy Note, he also suggested that larger displays were not necessarily better, and that OLED displays (used in South Korean rival Samsung's products) have “awful” colour saturation: “I’m not going to comment on what we’re going to do in the future, but it’s always broader than that which can be defined by a simple number,” he said.

Apple loses right to use iPhone trademark in Brazil

NEW YORK — Brazil’s copyright regulator on Wednesday stripped Apple Inc of the right to use its iPhone trademark in that country, the Wall Street Journal reported on its website on Wednesday.

The agency that oversees patents in Brazil said Gradiente Electronica, a Brazilian consumer electronics maker, already owned the rights to the iPhone name, according to the report.

Is this more of a competitor to Apples product or Samsung product?

Firefox maker Mozilla to launch smartphone operating system

LONDON - Mozilla, the maker of the Firefox web browser, will tomorrow launch its first smartphone operating system and the handsets on which it will run in a bid to shake up the mobile industry.

Aimed at the developing world, where Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android have yet to capture the market, Firefox OS will run on handsets made by Chinese companies ZTE, Alcatel One Touch and others, costing less than £100.

The ultimate party grants the power is still the end users. Tongue

Telcos hate Apple products which have highest subsidies, but as long as end users like it, they has no power to say no to iPhone and iPad

The "rebel" investor is serious...

Judge blocks Apple shareholder vote, handing victory to rebel investor

NEW YORK — A federal judge is blocking Apple from conducting a shareholder vote on a package of governance proposals, handing a victory to a rebel investor who is trying to persuade the company to share more of its cash with its investors.

US District Judge Richard Sullivan in New York ruled Friday that Apple was wrong to bundle four amendments to its corporate charter into one proposal for a vote at next Wednesday’s annual meeting. Shareholders should get to vote on the amendments separately, he said. Although the ruling was preliminary, before both sides had a chance to fully make their case, Sullivan said Apple was likely to lose. He granted dissident investors a preliminary injunction against Apple pending a full trial.

The competition continue...

Samsung takes on iPad Mini with Galaxy Note 8.0

BARCELONA (Spain) — Samsung Electronics is beefing up its tablet range with a competitor to Apple’s iPad Mini that sports a pen for writing on the screen.

The Korean company announced today in Barcelona that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will have an 8-inch screen, putting it very close in size to the Apple’s tablet, which launched in November with a 7.9-inch screen. It’s not the first time Samsung has made a tablet that’s in the Mini’s size range: Its very first iPad competitor had a 7-inch screen, and it still makes a tablet of that size, but without a pen.
