Many are wondering who will press the GO and start the bidding war. But I don't see why they can't make a joint GO and take UIC/SpLand private. Don't rule that out.
Basically, what is the purpose of Botak Wee of holding on to UIC? If the purpose is to maintain control of UOB indirectly through his network of companies(OUE, UIC, UOL, Haw Par), then it does not seem to be very cash efficient to take any one of them private.
The money can be used elsewhere to generate better returns than to use it to increase his stake in UOB.
Control of UIC had nonthing to do with controlling UOB,
UIC never had any significant amount of UOB shrs.
OUE is no longer under UOB group - it's been Lippo's property for a long time already.
UIC control substantial portfolio of investment ppties - both directly and also thru SingLand.
obviously whoever control UIC, control SingLand... coz UIC had a 78% stranglehold on SingLand.
