came across this from CNA:

Playground for Go Kong Wei and Wee Cho Yaw.
Both do not seem to be very interested to reward the minority shareholders.
Both do not want to give up their stake.
I think this tug of war will continue at least until one of them bites the dust?

But never mind lah, their UIC washing powder is quite good Big Grin
slow and steady...but no more action from go wee??

Hey yeokiwi, I'm aware that both of them are interested in the shares. But during the financial crisis, the share price drop to $1. Any idea why both of them didn't enter the market and suck up all the shares? Big Grin

Asking with hindsight without realising what they did during the period. Many companies talked about strong B/S and huge opportunities during that period but a few did the real work without opening their mouths.

Many are wondering who will press the GO and start the bidding war. But I don't see why they can't make a joint GO and take UIC/SpLand private. Don't rule that out.

Basically, what is the purpose of Botak Wee of holding on to UIC? If the purpose is to maintain control of UOB indirectly through his network of companies(OUE, UIC, UOL, Haw Par), then it does not seem to be very cash efficient to take any one of them private.

The money can be used elsewhere to generate better returns than to use it to increase his stake in UOB.

Control of UIC had nonthing to do with controlling UOB,
UIC never had any significant amount of UOB shrs.
OUE is no longer under UOB group - it's been Lippo's property for a long time already.

UIC control substantial portfolio of investment ppties - both directly and also thru SingLand.

obviously whoever control UIC, control SingLand... coz UIC had a 78% stranglehold on SingLand.

Oops.. Thanks for correction Tongue
I think I better stick to those that I am more familiar Big Grin
Good thing is both players are getting on in years so time is not on their side Big Grin

the bad is we don't know what is the intention of GCW if he manages to wrest control of 51% will he also delist?

For UIC - Singapore LAND is the main prize. Any contender that is trying to takeover UIC needs to be very financially strong to get 51% and also needs to be wily and cunning while competing with Wee and Morgan Stanley and thousands of small investors and punters who are also snatching up every little bit that comes up on the market.

UIC is like a poison pill Big Grin

The other bad is if any of them "goes" we don't know if their successors will continue to fight on or call it a day.

For those who play UIC is going to be a long patient game. I sold mine recently bought at slightly above $2 in 2010 not bad kopi money Big Grin

Maybe I will go for SingLand if I run out of kopi money Big Grin
