"In the past 12 months, more than 68,000 new Central Depository (CDP) Accounts have been opened, the highest 12-month addition ever and one which brings the total number of CDP acounts to 1.6 million."

I suppose these numbers include foreign investors as well - and I guess the new CDP accounts opened in the past 12 months include shareholders of Linc Energy from Australia who have opted to hold on to their Linc shares following the "migration" of the company from ASX to SGX in December 2013.

Why 2017?Huh

1977 - Was a bad year for a decade marred by Oil Crisis in 73/74
1987 - Black Monday Crash on Wall Street
1997 - Asian Financial Crisis
2007 - Global Financial Crisis
2017 - Akan Datang...

Ha! Ha!
Surely every place has its ecosystem. The desert has its own. So is the mangrove swamp. Is SGX STOCK EXC. any difference? And those who survive till today, aren't they were like the 68000 fresh meat at one time?
Of course we need fresh meats (renewal) for even those who survive (old meat) will be dead meat one day.

So far 2014 seems to be good. 2015 should be good as years ending with 5 have been good. So bubble may start to build during 2015-2016 where enough people are hearing stories from people who made it. Then 2017 ConfusedHuhSadAngel

O, yeah! How about:-
According to Taleb, "Black Swan events" have three characteristics:

1. It is a surprise.
2. It has a major impact.
3. People contend that they expected the event to take place (in hindsight).

Examples of "Black Swan events" would be 9/11, the collapse of Russia or the invention of the Internet.

So AFC, GFC, SARS, etc... are they consider as Black Swans or not?

NB:
I think market is always very funny. During the 9/11 event, NOL was selling at 20 to 30 cents. i was mad enough to trade this stock when it was at 70 cents. lol. When it reached 20 to 30 cents, i chickened out lol. The market has always been able to make me into a clown in the end. $64,000,000.00 Question? Is it going to be difference this time? i bet it is the same. How about you?

Why $64m??? At our age I thought $6m man is more familiar or u factored in inflation? Smile

Jokes aside even with hindside I don't think SARS or 911 is predictable. OTOH the signs are there for AFC, dot com or GFC. These are very different 6 sigma events IMHO

But I think though black swan is an important concept in risk budgeting, it has as much practical value as Motorola's 6 sigma program. The whole finance system would halt if decisions were based on 6 sigma events Smile

6 sigma program?
What Is Six Sigma?

Six Sigma – what does it mean?

Six Sigma at many organizations simply means a measure of quality that strives for near perfection. Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving toward six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process – from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.
The statistical representation of Six Sigma describes quantitatively how a process is performing. To achieve Six Sigma, a process must not produce more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. A Six Sigma defect is defined as anything outside of customer specifications. A Six Sigma opportunity is then the total quantity of chances for a defect. Process sigma can easily be calculated using a Six Sigma calculator.
The fundamental objective of the Six Sigma methodology is the implementation of a measurement-based strategy that focuses on process improvement and variation reduction through the application of Six Sigma improvement projects. This is accomplished through the use of two Six Sigma sub-methodologies: DMAIC and DMADV. The Six Sigma DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) is an improvement system for existing processes falling below specification and looking for incremental improvement. The Six Sigma DMADV process (define, measure, analyze, design, verify) is an improvement system used to develop new processes or products at Six Sigma quality levels. It can also be employed if a current process requires more than just incremental improvement. Both Six Sigma processes are executed by Six Sigma Green Belts and Six Sigma Black Belts, and are overseen by Six Sigma Master Black Belts.

According to the Six Sigma Academy, Black Belts save companies approximately $230,000 per project and can complete four to 6 projects per year. (Given that the average Black Belt salary is $80,000 in the United States, that is a fantastic return on investment.) General Electric, one of the most successful companies implementing Six Sigma, has estimated benefits on the order of $10 billion during the first five years of implementation. GE first began Six Sigma in 1995 after Motorola and Allied Signal blazed the Six Sigma trail. Since then, thousands of companies around the world have discovered the far reaching benefits of Six Sigma.

Many frameworks exist for implementing the Six Sigma methodology. Six Sigma Consultants all over the world have developed proprietary methodologies for implementing Six Sigma quality, based on the similar change management philosophies and applications of tools.

Let me try with layman term, Uncle Temp Big Grin

Six sigma just a probability term. It means more than 99.99966% correct. So if the finance system needs to ensure 99.99966% correct on its decision, then nothing can be decided.
