Patterns will get you media attention. Maybe some sympathy from some Singaporeans. But Singaporeans like minority shareholders wont stick out their necks. Roy tactics can only go so far. My opinion only.

seems like many troubles or signs of troubles got brewed from the public service sector. I recalled there was one civil servant playing double 1) talking up & 2) talking down on new toyo thread.

is it true that civil service got so much free time? if so, I wonder if they are really doing their job during work hours..hmm..

Actually, all the political connotations aside...Roy has 30 days to write in to the Minister under Section 14 of the Employment Act for Unfair Dismissal. If he is a union member, he can get the Union to take up his case. The Act gives the employee respite to have his case being heard at MOM should he 'feel' that he has been unfairly dismissed. I would assume that his current designation and pay allows him to be covered under the Act.

Just to be a bit sarcastic too, all VB members in civil service ( for that matter any organization ), you should expect your employers to allow you to run non work related website during office hour as long it is anti-govt. Your employers will not risk their reputation and be seen to be vindictive or trying to score brownie points, or geh kiang.....In other words, take all the risk you want because you got them by what Cristinao Ronaldo kicks.

It's quite apparent the whole system try to discredit Roy so that it serves 2 purpose 1) cannot go against the master 2) if u go against pinky u must be bad guy.

The same tactic worked in the past, and most people r ignorant about politics. Nowadays more r educated and with Internet, Fb, forum r better informed too. It's presumption that people r easily influenced by the newspaper or tv. Unless the Internet is shut down and Fb disabled, I think it was a miscalculated move to corner this poor chap who is harmessless AfterAll.

In life, a lot of incompetent people are taking on management/high level positions, I have lost count of them.
You take them out of that position of power and ask them to strike out on their own, they wont last a day.
Life is indeed unfair at times. The truly deserving people are the self made ones.

A normal paying job is what the company thinks you're worth. Striking it out on your own is the true measure of what you're worth and what work means to you.

I do not agree with many of what Roy said. However the point is not about what he said.

If we look around the world, no opposition is PERFECT. They will throw out 100 things. 4 or 5 of them fall through the crack ( not truthful, misleading etc), taken as part of parcel of politics. Here, just 1, you got a knockout blow for anyone who dare to stand up and give their voice.

There is a lack of tolerance to mistake, a huge sense of insecurity to opposing view and therefore widening of society. There needs to be room to play with.

A painful example is why Singaporeans are not re-producing themselves. A Well Respected Senior admits he do not understand. I would dare to said he do not want to understand. Taiwan has similar problem. However they are spot on. " Our younger generation feel insecure of their future. " Do you young people feel familiar ?

Your above statement tends to muddy the issue. Two things. Firstly, Roy was sued for defamation; not for speaking and writing about policies. Please do not mix them up and say the law suit is to silence anyone giving his voice. Secondly, Roy was given more than one chance. I believe the sequence of event leading to his being sued has been accurately documented elsewhere so I shan't repeat here.

If it is genuine mistake and you own up and make amends, you will still get the chance. IIRC, DPM Tharman was once charged for something under the OSA but he is now a DPM.
