Yes, it seems you can buy most top branded watches at airports when flying out of a country, to enjoy no GST but not Rolex. That is airports that have GST don't sell Rolex. Another words Rolex controls their pricing, therefore "value" very tightly. Is it the truth? Huh
i had one experience in one airport in Switzerland.
What about Singapore exit airports? Do they sell Rolex watches?Huh

A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.

I dunno abt singapore airport, but you ask common folk from india to cambodia everybody know what is rolex. They can even take it apart and tell whether it is a fake or not. Rolex is like coca-cola or microsoft windows because of good quality and marketing everybody knows.

Yes, it is so. So common that it amazes me how Rolex keeps to be one of the top brand. In fact it is the mass production watches in the top brand. No matter how Seiko tries, the market will never accept. Only watch movements from Switch will do. Question? - How come mass produced watches (Rolex) are still so expensive when they loses it's "exclusiveness".Huh

Ah! Very interesting. What i share my experience is based on many years ago. At that time Singapore's authorised Rolex dealers told me i couldn't buy Rolex at Singapore exit airports. i did confirm it was true.
Now they are selling at the airport, can you tell me who they are. Authorised or unauthorised dealers?Smile

From what i heard of, Rolex increases the price of their watches every year. They control their prices very tightly such that retailer often gives Rolex watches the smallest discount for it as compared to other brands. There seemed to be no negotiation allowed for further discount.

There is also a high demand and there is a higher resale price compared to other brands. Given the so called higher resale price, some treats it as an "investment".

This is what I heard of, maybe WolfT will want to confirm my point?

Hi Temperament
All rolex watches have international warrently. So those who sell in shop are AD except for pawnshop. The difference is local AD or non-local AD. It matters because those watches resale as local AD(eg THG) are price higher.
Back to your question, those sold at airport are consider non local AD.
Hi Shanrai
Yes you are right. They control their pricing and u can be assured your rolex watches will appreciate(price increase) every year. For the past 1 year they have increased their price twice!
It is also known as the crown of achievement, have you got yours?Big Grin

me? I do not even have any active income stream, how will I dareto purchase 1? My most expensive watch purchased till data is less than $30Confused

I don't trust watch as a sound investment product and will rather put money into the stock. I suppose that a watch collector should collect watches as a hobby and pride, and not as an investment.

it was broken when I got mine, something broke inside it had a worn out look a little bit rusted, somebody didn't want it anymore and gave it to me probably was the ugliest piece among his collection. I took it to repair paid $700 they fixed the internals and polish it up, now it looks much much better. The last I checked this datejust oyster model 16013 (I think) on ebay resale is around $2000+ for good to excellent condition.

Not bad for undervalued investment huh Big Grin

If you are looking to buy that first rolex and I think resale market could have more choices that will suit your budget Big Grin

Hi Wolft,
Rolex watch bought from local non-AD is like buying a car from parallel importers, i supposed. The thing is whether Rolex Service Centre at Tong Building will service the watch or not?
My wife bought a 50th anniversary Omega lady watch from Omega's shop itself in Switzerland which was more expensive than buying in Singapore's
Omega AD. Of course it also has international warranty certificate. In fact all top branded watches there sell for much higher prices there even though the same models are available here. i don't understand why till today, as the watches are manufactured there. So are in Peking. i understand why in Peking. How about HK's AD compare to Singapore's AD? You have HK Cortina. Is THG there also?
