I find Buffett’s remarks on Berkshire’s Cash Pile telling. He needs to find something sufficiently attractive to invest in - he’s finding that a major challenge. So he grows his war-chest. Sometimes the very best investment decisions start with “no”.

Part of the cash pile is from selling Apple. Interesting he digress to taxes and said it is likely to rise and concluded that he wouldn't mind selling some Apple

Is Buffett's Cash Hoard A Market Warning?

I reckon when BH reached its first 50 billion cash milestone, there were plenty of talk of market warnings. And then warnings came out again at 80billion, 100billion, 150billion....And during all these "cash-hoard periods", were there any better times to buy or sell?

https://companiesmarketcap.com/berkshire...h-on-hand/

From the last 22 years, BH's cash ranged between 25-45billion for the 1st ~11years before it started to increase considerably in the next ~11years. So we could say there are 2 periods. Was the 1st period (2001-2012) or the 2nd period (2013-2023) a better time to invest? Or on hindsight, which period gave better returns?

Hint: it was well known that S&P500 had a lost decade at the turn of the millennia

I am not certain if BH's cash hoard is highly correlated to market valuations, as a result of robust causation. But I am certain we are using observations to fit our conclusions.
