It takes more than a few days, or a few week, or even a few months to determine if the budget is good for business. It takes at least a few years. And even that it's hard to determine what causes STI to decline whether it be from the Middle East revolutions or from the budget.

We need good ruling party to run the country and good oppo party to do the check and balance.

this being a value forum, i'm surprised you think the STI is indicative of anything at all over the span of a few days.

that aside, i'm quite willing to say i will vote for the PAP government again. with or without the budget goodies.

i don't see any other viable party forming the government/cabinet for singapore.

Hello,

i'm just saying i will cast my lot with a system that has worked for the past 40 years. you are free to cast yours with whichever party you think would serve singapore best.

so, calling me names wasn't necessary.

I like to appeal to the good sense of all forummers to be civil when posting.

As much as this is an Investing forum, Politics and Inevsting can sometimes get intertwined since political stability is one external risk factor people take into account when investing. Therefore, the admin and moderators have been, and remain, pretty hands-off as far as topics to be discussed are concerned. (In fact, I think so far, we've pretty much acted like a road sweeper- tidying things up by shifting threads into categories.)

I also know that politics can be a touchy and sometimes personal matter and emotions can run high but let's all please refrain from name-calling so that this forum can remain a conducive environment for discussion.

Thank You.

Hi DY,

I think you might be biased if you say that the system has worked for the past 40 years. The question is who has it worked for? Do you think the system has benefited everyone? Or are you saying based on the fact that it has benefited you and maybe the people you know?

So you feel the current system does not have any issues and is the best system out there and thus it should not be touched?

You might want to ponder more before making such general statements .

Thank You.

Hello,

You are right to say that the system has worked for me. It has provided me with a roof over my head and an education. From here on, it’s up to me.

I’m under 30. I still live with my parents because I can’t afford my own house. I don’t own a car because I can’t afford one. I was educated in Singapore, can’t afford to go overseas. I don’t work in the civil service, so I’m not beholden to say nice things about the government.

In short, I don’t belong to the upper crust of society that is oblivious to the difficulties of the lower income group.

But I know if I work hard and save enough, I will some day own my own home and perhaps a car. And it is this system that has provided that possibility.
The current system has issues, and no system is the best out there. But what’s the alternative? Unless a viable opposition forms and shows itself capable of forming the entire cabinet, I will still be voting for the incumbent.
