UK pound falls to fresh 2.5-year low against Singdollar as 'Brexit' fears persist

SINGAPORE — The British pound fell to a fresh two-and-a-half-year low against the Singapore dollar on Wednesday (Feb 24) as investor concerns about a possible British exit (Brexit) from the European Union persisted.

The pound fell to as low as S$1.9543, showed Bloomberg data, a level not seen since Aug 13, 2013, when it hit S$1.9495.

We previously are expecting "Grexit" might be contagious, but it seem the one doing it now, is "Brexit". The next in the line is "Fixit"...

Finnish MPs to debate euro exit after 'Fixit' petition
11 Mar 2016 00:24
[HELSINKI] Finland's parliament must hold a debate on a possible referendum to leave the European single currency euro after receiving a citizen's initiative signed by more than 50,000 Finns on Thursday.

While a eurozone exit is seen as unlikely in financially troubled Finland, the number of signatures means that parliament is legally required to debate a referendum to decide on a possible Finnish exit, dubbed "Fixit" in the media.

The stake of Brexit has been higher...

Billionaire Li says 'Brexit' would prompt his UK retrenchment

It might delay the global economic recovery further. What an interesting world, we were worrying about Grexit months ago, but Brexit is more likely now... Big Grin

'Leave' sweepingly ahead of 'Remain' in Brexit poll
06 Jun 2016 06:52
[LONDON] Subscribers of a UK newspaper are overwhelmingly in support of a vote for Britain to leave the European Union, according to a poll published on the website of the Daily Telegraph.

Sixty-nine per cent of the nearly 19,000 subscribers polled by the Daily Telegraph were in support of Britain's exit from the 28-member bloc, while 29 per cent intended to vote to remain.

Britons will vote on June 23 on whether to remain in the EU.

Its just the spindoctors at work, maybe helping the currency traders...

It is well known that the daily telegraph is a newspaper that supports the views of their Conservative Party (which by the way is the party campaigning to leave EU).
Hence this poll and its readers are biased and needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Their newspaper circulation is about half a million copies so 19000 is hardly a significant number of people voting.

In fact i am surprised they did not have a higher % of votes for leaving given readership would likely be those mostly supporting the conservative party.

Remeber the Scottish independence referendum two years ago? Also a lot of hoo-hah, in the end voted to stay in UK.

Just wait till they vote we will know lah. IMHO UK will sit pat in the EU.

Supporters for "Remain" and "Leave" come from both Conservative and Labour. Within the Conservative cabinet there are dissenters from Cameron's position. Ditto for Labour's leadership. Therefore it is not a Conservative thing to leave.

The people agitating to leave are focused on housing and jobs. These issues are emotive. It would be hard for them to consider the bigger picture or realize that their membership in the EU has little bearing on those.

I am registered to vote in the referendum as a Commonwealth citizen.

the issues they having with immigration sounds familiar?  Tongue

have seen almost all of his videos on youtube and actually think a lot of nigel farage's comments make a lot of sense there's more benefit to leave than to remain question of sovereignty being the main and trade wise I don't think it will affect UK too much.

My impression on watching his many EU debates is I think his concern is the union rather than the original idea of a common market is increasingly becoming a 'one party poliitcal system' that decides for all the member countries regardless whether each country having their own political system and it's becoming a backdoor that allows all kinds of countries to join also more alarming they trying to start ther own common european union armed forces to confront russia.
