In January CP and Japan's Itochu agreed to jointly buy a 20% stake in Chinese conglomerate Citic for $10.1 billion. Dhanin is also eyeing Tesco's Thai business, estimated at $10 billion. Lately under fire for allegedly indulging in anticompetitive practices, CP recently faced a brief boycott of its 7-Eleven stores. Though the campaign didn't impact sales, the group said it would reflect on public opinion and strive to meet public expectations.

Central is also building a shopping mall in Malaysia's Selangor region.

Vanich also has a small stake in Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi's (No. 2) Thai Beverage.

Santi restructured his clan's 80-year-old Boon Rawd Brewery empire into 5 business segments and is said to be mulling listing the nonalcohol units. Maker of the popular Singha beer is also reportedly in the race for Vietnam's Sabeco.

His regional airline, Bangkok Airways, which listed last November, not faring as well; it reported a 62% fall in net profits for 2014.

Duty-free king may lose his King Power retail monopoly at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports as well as Phuket airport, with the military junta saying it's looking for ways to increase competition. Vichai is eyeing expansion in the region, including in Japan and Korea. King Power's revenues were up 20% to $1.9 billion in 2014 despite last year's political crisis, which hit tourist arrivals.

Fortune of clan behind Osotspa, maker of popular Thai energy drinks, which is shared by brothers Petch and Ratch and their cousin Niti, is combined this year. Ratch runs privately held company, leading expansion into Myanmar in joint venture with beverage maker Lo Hein. Petch is chairman of Bangkok University. Niti has investments outside the family fold.

Founder of BTS Group Holdings, operator of Bangkok's famous Skytrain, recently anointed eldest son Kavin as CEO, though he remains chairman. BTS has been asked by the government to delay a proposed fare increase in light of economic downturn. In property expansion, BTS teamed up in December with SET-listed developer Sansiri to build condo towers along mass transit stations.
13. Wichai Thongtang

Reports that IHH Healthcare may buy a stake in Bangkok Dusit Medical sparked rumor that the former lawyer may be selling his stake. Both companies denied any such move. Wichai's portfolio includes TWZ Corp., a distributor of mobile phones and peripheral devices. His pay-TV operator, CTH Public Co. (formerly Cable Thai Holdings), has broadcast rights for English Premier League football in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos through 2016.

The most popular is MK Suki, a value-for-money sukiyaki chain founded by his late mother-in-law. Rit runs company along with wife Yupin.

To offset volatility in sugar prices, his privately held Mitr Phol Sugar, Thailand's largest sugar producer, is expanding its energy business, which generates 400 megawatts of electricity, half for its own consumption. The company, which recently faced allegations of human rights abuses and illegal land-grabbing in Cambodia, said it was in discussions with the Cambodian government. Brother Chanin stepped down as CEO of family's Banpu, the country's biggest coal miner, after running it for more than 3 decades.

In March it raised $246 million through bonds and will use the funds for new projects.

Founder of Thai Union Frozen, the world's biggest producer of canned tuna, ended 2014 by inking a $1.5 billion deal to acquire American rival Bumble Bee Seafoods. But in March the company, run by eldest son Thiraphong, was in the eye of a storm after a report alleged that it was sourcing from a supplier linked to slave fishing labor. Thai Union broke off ties with the rogue supplier and said it was working with the government to reform the industry.

Shares of the broadband firm fell in March after it declared a hefty dividend, then went on to issue free warrants to shareholders. He recently denied rumors that he was selling out. Family also owns majority stakes in Sub Sri Thai, franchisee of Dunkin' Donuts and Au Bon Pain, and in warehouse firm Thai Sugar Terminal.

After studying in Switzerland and Germany, where he grew up, Harald Link arrived in Bangkok in 1978 to join his uncle in the family firm. Took charge as chief executive in 1987. Now grooming daughter Caroline as successor.

Retail queen is one of 7 children of the late Supachai Umpujh, founder of the Mall Group, best known for such Bangkok shopping havens as Siam Paragon, The Mall and The Emporium. Purdue University pharmacy grad returned home to help her father in setting up The Mall, their first department store, and is now vice chairman of the retailing empire she helped build. Banking on rising tourist influx, she's investing $1.5 billion in 6 projects, including the upcoming Bangkok Mall and the newly opened District-Em.

Major also owns close to one-fourth in mall developer Siam Future, which plans to open the country's first Ikea store in a Bangkok suburb. Other assets include privately owned McThai, operator of country's sole McDonald's franchise.
44. Gunkul Dhumrongpiyawut

Debuts on list after shares of his Gunkul Engineering more than doubled in the past year. didn't they make a movie about him in thailand? enterprising young guy but encountered a lot of obstacles took huge risks even when bank already foreclosed him and he when was near broke he went all in - real guts
