*PLAYING TWO 'GREAT COMPASSION MANTRA BY GRAND CHOIR' RECORDERS IN BIGGER HOUSES*

Caller: I would like to ask, when we play the 'Great Compassion Mantra By Grand Choir' softly at home, what is the area of coverage?

Master Jun Hong Lu: As long as you play it, there will be sound waves and foreign spirits will be aware of it.

Caller: Do we have to play a few more recorders in a double-storey or bigger house?

Master Jun Hong Lu: You just have to turn the volume up. However, it is also recommended to play two recorders especially for bigger houses with greater distance apart.

*_GREAT COMPASSION MANTRA_* *DISPLAYED ON THE WALL OF LIVING ROOM WILL EFFECTUATE THE BLESSINGS FROM BODHISATTVA AND DHARMA PROTECTORS*

A Buddhist friend is currently renovating his house. He plans to hang a large *_Great Compassion Mantra_* with frame in the living room. I would like to ask which colour is best suited to be used as background for the mantra which is written in black. Please enlighten us, Master.

Master Jun Hong Lu:  It is best to avoid using black as the background of the *_Great Compassion Mantra_*.  However, the calligraphy can be in black.  As for the base colour, yellow or white are fine.

Caller:  Alright.  Once it is framed, what are the things he should take note before hanging it on the wall?  Does he need to recite any mantra/scriptures?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Nothing much.  Once it is hung up, Bodhisattva and Dharma Protectors will come along to offer their compassionate blessings.

Caller:  He should hang it in the living room?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  That’s right.

Caller:  Thank you Master for answering my question.

*WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERCEIVING THE BODY AS UNCLEAN AND SELF REFLECTION*

Caller: Master Lu, What is the difference between viewing the body as unclean and self-reflection?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Perceiving your body to be impure allows you to be aware that your body is very filthy and thus curtailing your desires and greed. Self-reflection is a sense of awareness that you have erred. The notion is not the same.

Caller: Which will benefit us better in correcting our ignorant habits?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Perceive the body as unclean.

Caller: I understand now. Thank you, Master Lu for answering my question.

*HOW DO WE AVOID BEING CONSTANTLY BOTHERED BY WHAT OTHERS THINK*

Caller: In an effort to break the habit of selfishness, a Buddhist friend practised to see things from others' perspective and learnt to put himself in others’ shoes. However, he ended up being caught in a predicament where he is constantly bothered by what others think. Master, with regards to the phenomenon, may I know how do we actualize the mean ("middle way") where we are able to be neither selfish nor bothered by what others think of us?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  This is easy.  Turn a deaf ear, that’s it!  “Speak no evil, hear no evil and do no evil.”  What others say has nothing to do with us.  There is nothing we can do to stop them.  Just ensure that we are righteous.  Frankly speaking, if someone says that we are not good, does that make us inferior?  The same goes if they start to spread bad rumours about us, does that make us a bad person?

Caller:  That’s not possible.  “A righteous person is able to conquer the demons”, this is what you mentioned before, Master.

*KEEP RECITING 108 TIMES OF _MANTRA TO UNTIE KARMIC KNOTS_ FOR THOSE WHO ENCOUNTER A LOT OF NEGATIVE ROMANCE*

Caller: A Buddhist friend has encountered a lot of negative romance in his life. He asked if he can continue reciting the _*Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots*_ for 108 times every day to resolve negative karmas and 'debts of affection'?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes. It is necessary to recite the mantra for those with a lot of negative romance, otherwise it will invite trouble.

Caller: We may reduce the number of times when we feel that we are more sanctified, right?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, that's right.

*IT IS BEST NOT TO UNDERGO SURGERY WHEN THERE IS PREDETERMINED CALAMITY; HOW TO RESTORE OUR VIGOUR AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE?*

Caller:  Master Lu, we are well aware that the ages that end with three, six and nine are associated with predetermined calamities. It is best to perform more prostrations and recitations in order to neutralise its effect.  Beside these , is it true that we should avoid undergoing surgery as well?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Given a choice, it is best to avoid surgery; only do so if you are left with no other option. A human body is like a watch.  If we open the cover of the watch once too often, we may damage the vital parts of the watch.   Those who undergo surgeries frequently will impair their vigour.  There was an elderly man, who claimed to have undergone multiple surgeries, and eventually passed away.  This is because he had lost all his vigour.

Caller:  For those who had undergone surgery, what is the fastest way to restore their vigour?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Firstly, we should talk less and perform more recitations to seek the blessings of Bodhisattva.  Next, we should not lose our temper. Anger will lead to internal dissipation of energy. For example, external dissipation of energy occurs when we engage in physical activities with displeasure; however, if we are emotionally upset, energy will be dissipated from within us.

Caller:  I understand now.

*NEGATIVE KARMA IS A BY PRODUCT OF UN-WHOLESOME THOUGHTS. ACQUIRE EMPTINESS OF MIND AS TAUGHT IN BUDDHISM OR LEARN TO ONLY GENERATE KIND THOUGHTS*

Master Jun Hong Lu’s speech: Please remember that unwholesome thoughts led to the creation of negative karma. It is our thoughts that led to the chained reactions in our body, actions, and speeches. Therefore, it is imperative to learn empty mindedness in Buddhist cultivation. Without any thoughts in mind, you will not create any karma. If you have thoughts surfacing in your mind, they have to be wholesome. There are some people with unwholesome thoughts, thus, created negative karma for themselves. To create karma is to plant a cause. Why do you think a person has such heavy negative karma? It is because he keeps creating it incessantly.
