Singapore says first premier Lee Kuan Yew Is critically ill

SINGAPORE (Mar 18): Singapore’s first elected Prime Minster Lee Kuan Yew is “critically ill” and his condition has deteriorated further, the government said.

Lee, 91, has been hospitalized at the Singapore General Hospital since Feb. 5 for severe pneumonia and is on mechanical ventilation. He is in the intensive care unit, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.

The office in a statement on Tuesday said Lee’s condition worsened due to an infection and he’d been put on antibiotics.
