Your guesses are correct. I guess more people will start looking closely into the 3 players' products and compare their packaging presentations and materials.

There has been quite a lot more volume done this morning (7Jan11) than the usual days. Something positive brewing?

I would like to see another CNY "hong pao" dividend this year!

i noted that, at least for my neighborhood, Gold Roast's 100% natural oats 1kg priced at $3.95, is selling like hot-cake..seems to be fetching higher volume than its coffee. As a non-coffee drinker, at first I tried QAF's Cowhead organic natural oats 500g priced at $3.10, then just recently swtiched to Vizbranz' oats, seem gd enough and better value for money.

In the latest results announced, Viz Branz noted that gross profit margin has been impacted by fluctuating raw material prices. This is not a surprise and has been expected for some time by management, who in my opinion, have actively sought to cut down on other costs. E.g. selling and distribution expenses have dropped 34%.

Shareholders will also be glad to know that Viz Branz has declared a dividend of 0.75c/share.

H1 (ended 31Dec10)-FY11 results announcement (first released on 11Feb11) makes interesting reading.....

I suppose, if not for a some 9.6% depreciation of the CNY vs. SGD over the 6-month period between Jul - Dec10.....
http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=CNYSG...X;range=1y
, Viz Branz would have posted higher group revenue and likely even higher profits, as well as a much smaller forex loss (linked to the group's trade receivables denominated in CNY and other regional currencies which had also depreciated against the SGD) than the posted $1.723m.

While the fluctuation of SGD/CNY exchange rate will continue to moderate Viz Branz's group profits, it is fair to say that as long as the PRC-based business continues to grow and remain profitable, the value of this business division and that of the entire Viz Branz group should continue to increase with time.

As anticipated, while higher prices of some raw materials had temporarily dampened the GP Margin to 32.5% (vs. 38.5% achieved in the whole of FY10 ended 30Jun10), the fact that Viz Branz still managed to post a profit increase at all 3 OP, PBT and NP levels does say a lot about the management's focus and determination to manage/control other operating expenses in order to maintain a good level of profitability.

Ben Chng has resumed buying more Viz Branz shares from the open-market. Soon after the release of the H1 (ended 31Dec10)-FY11 results on 11Feb11, he added a total of 198 lots on 14Feb11 and 15Feb11, and paid $0.31/share.....

With these purchases, Chng now has a direct personal interest of 49.8917% in the equity of Viz Branz. Awesome!

Apparently Ben Chng has his eyes on the recently declared dividends. More likely and perhaps more heartening is that he still sees good value in his business at the current market valuations.

There is one thing that I am still confused about.

If the listing manual requires an individual or an entity to make a general mandatory offer if they acquired more than 30% (??) of a company, how is it that we see many companies with individuals/entities controlling a substantial stake in the company without triggering the GMO.

The GO is triggered in 2 ways:

1. From below 30%, hit 30%.
2. Above 30%, increase by more than 1% within 6 months.

See the Listing Manual for details.
