HK protesters now turn attention to British consulate
HONG KONG — Defying the authorities’ repeated calls to leave the rally sites, pro-democracy protesters are instead planning to occupy roads surrounding the city’s British consulate to signal their deep displeasure over London’s lack of support for their movement.
The city’s government has ramped up pressure on protesters, urging them to go home after more than six weeks of demonstrations that have brought parts of Hong Kong to a standstill.
Barricades are set to be cleared in the next few days, with thousands of police officers put on standby over the weekend.
But protesters are unperturbed. Some have pasted huge posters around the protest sites announcing the consulate occupation on Nov 21 and a Facebook page for the event has more than 700 likes.
Splashed across the posters are slogans such as “China breaches the joint declaration, UK government respond now”, with the pro-democracy movement’s trademark umbrella symbol emblazoned with the British flag.

The protesters have obviously overstayed their welcome. They didn't quit while ahead....
It's quite ironic that they are appealing for help to one that didn't give them much democracy in the first place
I'm actually pleasantly surprised that Chinese government still continued to use the carrot approach.

But students feed on ideals and easily manipulated. They are actually more dangerous. LKY's tactic is to send police to their parents especially the mothers to warn them they are going to crack down and their children might get hurt. Let the mother do the job of bringing the children back. Recently China was smart to cordone off the entire Tian An Men and claim refurbishment, after there was a twitter call for gathering there
HKers are very pragmatic people. Their main purpose is 1 Oct so as long China can contain the crowd by 1 Oct I think they will disperse, except for the students maybe. China just need to impose some economic pain on HK and things will change... the carrot does not seemed to be working.

Hong Kong student protest leaders plan Beijing visit on Saturday
HONG KONG - Three Hong Kong student leaders plan to take their fight for greater democracy to Beijing on Saturday as frustration grows over the city government's inability to negotiate on electoral reforms in the former British colony.
Protesters have occupied some of Hong Kong's most economically and politically important districts for more than six weeks, camping out in some of the world's most expensive real estate to demand free elections in 2017.
Hong Kong Federation of Students' (HKFS) leader Alex Chow said late on Thursday he planned to travel to Beijing with fellow activists Eason Chung and Nathan Law and they hoped to meet Chinese leader Li Keqiang.
News of the trip is likely to unnerve Beijing, which has called the protests in Hong Kong illegal and there is no guarantee that China would allow pro-democracy activists in.

HONG KONG — Pro-democracy protesters in the city are losing public support, an opinion poll showed, increasing pressure on their leaders to call an end to almost two months of demonstrations.
About 67.4 per cent of people surveyed said the activists should give up their street occupation immediately, a poll conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong from Nov 5 to 11 showed.
Those against the movement rose to 43.5 per cent from 35.5 per cent last month.

Nearly 83% of HK people seek end to protests
HONG KONG — Nearly 83 per cent of Hong Kong people want the protests that have sparked clashes with the police and disrupted the city for almost two months to stop as more than two-thirds say they want the government to clear the protest sites, showed a new poll.
The University of Hong Kong poll released on Wednesday also showed that about 68 per cent of 513 respondents said the government should clear out the pro-democracy protesters immediately.
The results of the survey, conducted between Monday and Tuesday, came a day after Dr Chan Kin-man, a co-founder of the protests known as Occupy Central, urged protesters to consider ending their blockades of major roads and switch their focus to seeking long-term support from the public.
Public support for the demonstrations, which at their peak saw tens of thousands of people in the streets, is waning after crowds dwindled, attempts to negotiate with the government failed and the movement’s leaders failed to agree on strategy.

HONG KONG - Hong Kong authorities encountered little resistance as they began clearing part of a pro-democracy protest camp in the bustling district of Mong Kok on Tuesday following a court order to reopen a road.
The gritty, working-class area across the harbor from the main protest site at Admiralty has been the scene of some of the most violent clashes during two months of pro-democracy demonstrations in the Chinese-ruled city.
Hundreds of police stood guard as authorities enforced the court order to reopen Argyle Street to free up traffic.
Workers in white helmets and vests moved wooden blockades from the road after demonstrators had earlier dismantled tents and packed up their belongings. The injunction was granted to a bus company which said the blockade had hurt business.

My colleague just came back from Hk and she mentioned it was so peaceful she didn't even realise is an occupy movement.
Hk and china have missed a golden opportunity for de-escalation, the situation will become more polarised now.

Hong Kong protest area cleared, some arrested
HONG KONG — Hong Kong authorities today (Nov 25) arrested pro-democracy demonstrators who refused to comply with a court order to clear a protest site in the city’s Mong Kok district, scene of previous violent confrontations with police and angry mobs.
Police took away about a dozen protesters after warning people not to interfere with workers and bailiffs enforcing the court order to remove obstructions from the site, one of three that activists have occupied for nearly two months.
Protesters initially put up no resistance as workers in white hard hats and gloves tore down barricades, moving wooden pallets and other junk into the middle of an intersection to be taken away in a truck that had pulled up.
But as the authorities pushed down the 50m occupied stretch of Argyle Street to remove tents and other debris, they faced defiance from protesters, who used delaying tactics such as asking for more time to pack up their belongings.
Pro-democracy lawmaker Leung Kwok-hung was among those taken away by officers to waiting police vans.
Traffic on the previously occupied section of Argyle Street, which had been blocked by the protesters for nearly two months, was flowing in one of the four lanes by late afternoon.
