With the recent dedication by one member to find out which buddies invest in and Cyclone announcing his holdings, I have decided to follow suit.

My investing philo is more rojak, where i use free cashflow, RNAV and future earnings of the counter valuation to find my gems. Some of my single positions do exceed 20%, wont tell you which counter they are :p

As of today, I hold these counters:
Sing Holdings
Penguin
KSH
Fischer
Hotung
TTJ
GP Batteries
YZJ

PS: Can Mod help me rename the title of my thread from "ortfoilo" to "portfolio". I spelled it wrongly

Interesting counters. Fischer and TTJ got my attention. Will take a deeper swim. GP Batteries I think is ready for turnaround.
Time to roll!!!

Currently in the midst of ensuring my portfolio is more concentrated. As I am trying to attain the concept of investing in only "the best few ideas"

As of today, my holdings are:

Sing Holdings (22.5%)
Penguin (22.31%)
KSH (30%)
Fischer (16.2%)
TTJ (5.2%)
Cash (to be deployed from YZJ sale) [3.79%]

Just a comment,

I find it kinda risky to put in sooo much % (<10%) into a counter, but it's just me. Smile
i advocate, "try to not lose money" strategy, rather than "make as much $ as possible".... Big Grin

But i supposed if your portfolio contains more than just stocks, and include, bonds, physical assets..etc..
also considering your age and income stream abilities?

ya, i would classified you as "Enterprising Investor!" Big Grin

Hi all,

I have a question on how to calculate the returns of a portfoilo over a year. Lets say in the attached excel these are the hypothetical results in each quarter. How does one calculate the annual returns? Do provide me the workings as I need it for future reference, if possible. Thanks in advance

Hi CY09,

I have attempted this with XIRR on Excel.

Attached is the file.

In a previous post, Cityfarmer had mentioned that there is a mistake on XIRR, so please check with cityfarmer on what are the pitfalls of using xirr.

The amended file is in the hypoxirr tab

Cheers

The previous pitfalls were on cash reserve within portfolio, and comparison of annualized vs. non-annualized. In this case, both are non-issues.

I did a rough work using both NAV and XIRR methods. The XIRR is slightly different from Shrivathsa's, due to different entry timings assumed.

The return is pretty close, around 55-60%

Thanks, Cityfarmer.

CY09, actually, i just realized that if you add the % gain every quarter, it comes to the same level, i.e. 54.36%, which is similar to the 55-57% we get with xirr or nav.

CY09, also, let me congratulate you on being brave in your selection and decision to concentrate.

I can never be as brave as you, in concentrating my thinking.
