Hi All,

I have been with Wallstraits; Afralug and now Valuebuddies for quiet a few years. Just wondering if it would be feasible for us, Value Enthusiasts to have a get-together.

Thoughts are most welcome.

And what would we do at a get-together, may I ask? Just curious, coz I can't think of any real reason to meet-up, unless it's to celebrate the anniversary of the various incarnations of value buddies. Hehe...

For newbies I think this would be good. Can listen to the savvy and experience share experiences. Maybe just to discuss about fundamentals or theories of investing. Or choose a company to analyse where people just offer their views?

Well, I don't see the necessity of a forum meeting. We can share things here by writing on threads in sufficient detail for the newbies, and also brainstorm of other issues worth discussing at the same time. Physical meetings can be awkward due to the fact that everyone is "faceless" on the Internet, and I don't really see it adding any value in addition to what we already have on this forum.

But I do support private meetings between smaller groups of investors, and this can be arranged through PM if need be. If these investors feel that such intimate meetings (in smaller groups) can help facilitate and enhance learning, they are free to approach the people on their own volition and initiate such meetings. I'm think if any forummers want to, they can create a thread and post details of the meet-up there plus some way to contact the coordinator so that the coordinator can make the necessary arrangements. If any forummers own a cafe/bar/pub or some other suitable venue, no harm letting the coordinators know too. But I think the purpose will be for more of a social one than a learning one.

For me, I think I will pass too. Think it's much easier to generate discussion and ideas in this forum. Perhaps in future when I have more time on my hands for recreational activities, I will help organise or participate in such a meet-up.

Meet ups are feasible if you are interested in attending seminars/talks together.
Start from there and go on to the personal basis.

I would rather stay in my yatch with my pretties and study fundamentals with them.

I think we've all been pretty busy this year (at least, I have!), and anyway Value Buddies was just set up less than half a year ago.

We'll see how 2011 pans out and if there is enough interest and enthusiasm generated then perhaps someone can bring the idea up to Admin. I am OK with it as long as I can find the time to attend such gatherings/meetings. Smile
