IMHO, dont think it is a value stock but speculators can find always a reason to do a quick punt. The best reason is that moneymax and maxicash are trading at richer valuation... but is the market always right?
Isnt the market controlled by the rich to a certain extent? If there isnt such a thing as share buyback, i am quite certain that fragrance, aspial, oxleyholdings, etc will be trading below their current prices

Pawnshops market will suffer from the 'tragedy of the commons' when everyone expands with capital thrown at them.
I think the customer base is limited. Dont see the younger ones use pawnshops. Just use CC Balance Transfer or Cash Advance
can already. No shame involved.
Let's see the picture given by statistics. Refer to the Yearbook of Statistics Singapore, 2013, page 216.
The loan amount given out in year 2012 was S$7.1 billion, versus year before of S$4.9 billion. The amount is increasing y-o-y for the past 7 years.

Frankly speaking, pawnshop to me is a sunset business, majority of customers are old folks, younger generation like myself will probably not step into pawnshop because:
1. feel paise later kena spotted by friends or neighbours,
2. there are more way to get financing from banks,
3. limited amount of financing provided by pawnshops with pledges,
4. have nothing to pledge, my most luxury assets are stocks,

There will be more old folks replacing the older folks as we go into the Golden Age, so unlikely to see sunset soon.

There is an article on pawnbrokers, or more specifically ValueMax on Oct, 28 issue of The Edge.
An increasing loan amount y-o-y for the past 7 years, and more than 40% increment from 2011 to 2012. If that is a sunset industry, than all my vested companies are in sunset industries

Lol, I think our younger generation will become fashioned old folks after 2 to 3 decades. Who knows, but for sure I won't change my lifestyle lo. And for singstat, sometimes I gave fake figures out of rushing ..

There are amendments proposed for the Pawnbrokers Act (PBA). The proposed amendments are documented in Ministry of Law website.
http://www.mlaw.gov.sg/news/public-consu...-2013.html
One of the amendment proposed is to remove the existing auction system. It should be a plus for pawnbrokers with a simplified procedure, thus reduces expenses.

If thing is so easy, pawnshop would have disappear long ago. And what if u need money and all your stock are back in 2008 low or u r sitting on losses. Will u sell?
I do not means offend, but that was what my parent did when we were young and my father was working in PSA, drawing only $230 per month. My mother would pawn her gold before school re-open to buy us textbook, uniform.
But today, with these casino, young people are addicted gambler. Not surprise to see them at the pawnshop.
What so shameful? We have collateral, we give something to get money to get over our immdeiate needs.
Try asking your friend and relative for help, and see what happen? Maybe , u are lucky, got good relative, but not me. That is even more paisay when they look down on you.
Going to pawnshop is better than going to these people.

Just to clarify that I don't mean shameful when I said paise, it just the reluctance to step into pawnshop unless there are really no other mean to continue a living. For my case, I simply do not have any gold or rolex, my greatest assets is only a humble HDB and some shares. Pls don't get me wrong...
