Interesting that there isn't any Moutai thread in this forum.
Considering its brand strength and cash generating power, I reckon its current price of RM1300 with forward PE of about 20 is rather attractive.

Latest 2024-H1 report:
https://static.sse.com.cn/disclosure/lis...9_1N8C.pdf

And of course I am well aware of the concerns and hence the 3 years low price.
Some of the concerns are:
1) Lower demand due to weak consumer sentiments in China and overall pessimistic chinese expectation of future growth (or the lack of).
2) Oversupply at distribution channels or those stocks held by speculators who now dumping as Moutai product retail price going down.
3) Youngsters or new generations not drinking much!

All concerns I am sort of agree and my biggest concern is on the oversupply and how long it takes to clear the stocks.
I noticed moutai products visibly available in Changi & BKK airports which for quite a long times I never really notice, I guess the Management trying to channel the oversupply to Southeast asia.

But again, my reason to invest in Moutai is border at dumb!
Is Moutai brand still strong? Is there any preferences of consumer on Moutai baijiu?
Will it do well in next 10 years?
My answer to those question is a YES and hence with PE of 20, I think it's attractive, until proven otherwise, I am likely to hold this for a very very long while!
My views are your Gilbert & Sullivan's:

Kweichow Moutai is the biggest component stock on the FTSE China A40 (~10%) and so I reckon it is well tested. Never drank baijiu before and ChatGPT says that it is an acquired taste (which reminds me of durians). Just like I would have to scuttlebutt their products (eg. whisky or champagne) before thinking whether to invest in LVMH or Pernod Ricard, I probably have to try some baijiu.

Asset:
- Balance sheet (as a % of equity): Loan to others-50%, cash and equivalents-25%, working capital-20% (mainly inventories), PPE-10%, Intangibles/non current assets-5% --> total 110% of equity is balanced out by 10% deposits from related siblings.

Business:
- This is a business with GPM~90% (Maotai standalone is 95%), OPM~85% and NPM~50%. When you claim that water drawn from ChiShui river is so unique and infuse it with century old rituals like "stepping on wheat during dragon boat" and "sorghum soaking during the Double Ninth Festival", you magically earn a lot of money for this magic potion.
- Company has a finance arm (Kweichow Moutai Group Finance) where (1) It invests excess capital into development funds (2) take deposits from fellow siblings and pays them interest, (3) Loans to siblings as well and charge them interest.

Structure
- Dividend payout ratio~40%.
- Parent company China Kweichow Moutai Distillery Group (itself a SOE 90% owned by Guizhou Provincial Gov) owns 54% and other SOEs owns ~6%. non Mainland China entities (custodized under HKEX clear) has ~6%.
