(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)
*NEVER OPT FOR EUTHANASIA AS IT WOULD CAUSE MORE SUFFERINGS TO THE SOUL UPON DEATH*
Caller: How are you, Master? May I know from a Buddhism standpoint, is euthanasia considered an act of suicide for cases where patients requested to be euthanised because they are unwilling to undergo the intractable suffering from their illnesses?
Master Jun Hong Lu: One should never get involved in any decision involving the administration of euthanasia, even if is at the behest of someone. It is tantamount to responding to a request by a person with an unsound mind who tells you “Please kill me!”, would you oblige? You will still be subject to death penalty for doing so! It’s absolutely wrong! That may truly be his wish, but it does not mean that you have the liberty to act on it.
Caller: I see. Euthanasia is about ending one’s life ahead of the person's predestined death. If we accede to such a request, we are as good as interfering with the law of karma.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Exactly! This person may think that his physical suffering will cease post euthanasia; in reality, his spirit will have to undergo much more intense agony when he dies.
